I finally picked up my 325xi last night (steel grey, step, black 'ette, HK, CWP). I'm very happy to have it. It's such a nice car (I guess I'm preaching to the choir here). I've been considering the cd changer. The dealer wants close to $800 for this. http://www.autotoys.com/ (http://www.autotoys.com) has an OEM compatible 6 disc changer for $299.95, that claims to be compatible withthe H/K system. Has anyone tried this changer? does it really work as advertised?
My dealer was saying all the glove box installs they've done were later taken out because people don't like them. Is the glove box really that bad a place to put the changer? It seems convienient to me. A passenger could change the discs loaded in there while on the road.

an adapter which runs ~$100. So you might as well just buy the OEM (availalbe from Circle BMW , Pacific BMW, Cutter Motors, eurobuyers) for less than $400. Installation is a DIY.

has been reported to be unreliable, fragile, and generally not recommended (supposedly discontinued).

i didn't get mine from autotoys, but i have a pioneer 6-disk changer with the adapter and it works perfectly (steering wheel controls are fully compatible). cost me under $300 total for the changer and adapter.
i believe the autotoys one also comes in a full kit (changer and adapter included), so you won't have to pay the $100 for the adapter separately. if you get the alpine version, you can even use the bmw oem mounting brackets and trunk liner.:thumb:
EDIT: just checked Autotoys.com and the $299 Alpine "BMW 6 DISC CHANGER 1996-2001+ TYPE II" does come with the following: "brackets, adapter, changer, cartridge" and is HK compatible, so that's all you'll need.
