Looking at buying my first BMW, a pre-owned 2001 530i. My question is about wheels. I see a few that have the wheels you see on the red car below, but most seem to have the wheels you see on the black one below. IMO the wheels on the red look better. Were these included in a sport package or something?

(I see on the BMW web site this year had an option Sport Package and an optional Sport Premium Package. Any idea of the difference?)

Black car has the stock wheels. Any car with the Sport or Sport Premium Package will have the bigger rims as in the red car.

What are the differences between the sport and sport premium? Were you able to get both, or just one?

You could get the Premium, Sport or Sport Premium (combo of both). Since the packages included some mutually exclusive items or some items that were common to both, they created a package that included the best features of each to avoid making people pay twice for some options.

Did they change the 525/530 sport pkg wheel again for 2002? I could swear i've seen post 2001 5 series w/ sport pkg ( they had the blacked out chrome) but w/ 17" wheels that resemble the wheels on the black car...

The 2002+ 525i with Sport Package has wheels that are similar to the type 44's, but the spokes are curved and not straight like the 44s. I don't remember the style. The non-sport 525i also has a new style wheel replacing the previous BBS-style that dates back to the E39's release. The new wheel is a split 5 spoke design.

The 530 keeps its rim selection.

The 540 is the same, except the 18" M-parallel's replace the radial spoke design on the sedan with sport package.

Thanks. The 525i sport pkg doesn't come w/ sport seats either, right?

The 2002+ 525i SP now includes the Sport seats and M-style steering wheel.
