I was driving down the highway today and all of a sudden I began to feel a harsh shaky vibration and strong pull to one side. It took me about 2 kms. to safely move over all the lanes and pull over. One of my tires was completely flat so I switched it out. This is what the inside of the rim looks like... about a 2 inch long chip.
Is this just similar to curb rash and can be left as-is since it is on the inside of the rim or could this turn out to be more serious in the long run if I do not get it refinished?
The damage is right in the middle of the first pic and kind out out of focus in the second pic. The other rectangular white spot is just from the wheel weights from a previous balancing, so ignore that mark in both pics.
