sounds familiar mate!!

As long as the filter lets more air in than the stock airbox then you will feel a difference. And for a quid then you cant go wrong.....unless it lets crap into your engine but that is unlikely in reality

well heres their site http://www.fram.com/index.php?setCountry=OTHER apparently they have a 23***37; share of the uk vehicle filter industry and a 54% of the american market..... (not that i really care.... cars always serviced on time anyways i just thought as so cheap why not treat her!!)

Fram filters are very common here in the states. I've only used Fram oil filters on my Honda because the only one better I feel is the Mobil 1 filter and for nearly 3 times the price, the extra mileage is just not worth it.

I am ashamed to say i have never heard of them over in the UK

The biggest over here are K&N (they rule) and Pipercross (popular but inferior)

Just a little bit of family history for you Pirate. Where your maternal great grandmother lived in Wales there was a huge Fram Filters factory just across the way [near to the Royal Mint if I remember rightly]. One of my uncles used to work there. I presume it is still there

I have not heard this name for decades.

I have yet to have any issue with K&N Filters. i ran them in my e30, e36 and even my 77 Chevy C10 pickup. I also usually had some type of material over the filter as well. Like a t-shirt or some other type of cotton. It is really personal preference. IMO

I suppose that it would only become a factor if you live in extremely dusty/dirty environment. The car has been run for a long time with a K&N drop in, i'm sure a K&N cone won't hurt now!

They used to do something similar in the rally cars at the circuit buddy

Not needed on our road cars but an excellent tip

I've never heard of ANY of these brands.
I have always used RYCO filters, which are very common around here and have a good name.
They make filters for oil, air, fuel, mothers-in-law, the lot.

Put it on, give it a try - if it doesn't do what it says on the label then take it off.

...then try a K&N. Take a look at this - may help you decide/convert you [I have posted on this feedback - see Feb07]

fram filters were just installed on my bumer(:P) - air, oil and fuel filters. the engine seems to run normally - i actually put some full-synthetic (castrol 5w40) oil into the eninge and now makes a cool rooring sound :) - it was a bit formula-like before, with the old crap that was in the engine when i bought the car.

I'd say if you are going replacement panel, then get a K&N or Green panel filter. For a few $ more, Buy a cheap Ebay CAI and a good K&N cone filter and you will be pleasently surprised at the engine response! I went from a de-baffled airbox with a K&N drop in panel to a CQAi with a huge K&N filter. The performance difference is night and day.
