View Full Version : check engine light question

The check engine light came on yesterday. I use the pedal trick and got an EGO sensor warning.

I filled up with gas this morning, and three minutes later the check engine light went out on its own.

I need to mention that I believe I have a leak in the hose that runs from the fill spout to my fuel tank. I'm putting it in the shop next week to get that replaced.

My question: since it was raining pretty severly the past few days, what are the odds that a bit of rainwater may have gotten into my fuel system through whatever leak I have in the fill hose, and the EGO sensed the water in my fuel, and tripped the light ... and then after filling up this morning, it sensed no water, and went out?

Those silly Germans and their cars.

I would say there was a pretty good chance to be honest

Monitor it over the next few weeks and see how it goes. Oh, and that hose fixed ASAP

to understand the odds of this happening, one must be logical.

Your fuel system is pressurized. The leak will happen, in which case fuel will want to come out. I am guessing your fuel economy is :thumbdwn:

... sorry about that one.

Make sure you're putting at least 91 in there....
... anywayz...

so Water going IN TO the fuel system is VERY unlikely since the hose is pressurized. If anything, fuel will come out, nothing will want to go IN.

That's my take on it, at least.

I miss my e36.... I don't think they built the E46's with the love they put into the E36... the E36 is just more solid....
