I found a great 1991 BMW 325ix for sale with all service records. My big question about it though is what type of mileage I can expect. I found the EPA estimated mileage: 17 city and 23 highway. That seems pretty terrible for a 168 horsepower engine. I was hoping that the members of the forum could relate their experiences with mileage with this engine. I am test driving the car TOMORROW. Since that will be one of the biggest factors in my buying decision with this car, I'd like to know what to expect going into the test drive/negotiation. Thanks for all your help!!!

If your looking for optimum mileage,go buy a diesel or hybrid.

Thanks for the response. Can you relate the actual mileage figures that you've been getting with your car? Thanks again.

Not too good seeing I drive up a mountain daily for 11 miles going from sea level to 4000 feet at 70 miles per hour within that 11 miles. If I drive at sea level between 16-20 mpg but I also drive very spirited.

My old eta (1986 325e) got close to 28 on a stictly hwy. run. In the city, it got about 23.

If I drive like I'm trying to save gas, I can get 7.5 L/100 km. I'm not sure as to how many MPG it is, though.
If you want an efficient car, get a diesel or a hybrid, as said before, if you want an e30, then get an eta.

My '90 325i gets around 20 around town, using a mix of highway and city driving. which is right in your 17-23 mpg advertised range.

While it may be too late for your purchase, you don't buy an iX for mileage. Although I do get about 25 on the highway, local driving is at best 18. I average about 300 miles per tank.:)

I get about 400 and change km / tank of gas combined in my 88 325iX, works out to be about 11-12 L/100km.

In an ix, that's pretty decent.
