Hi All,

I have loved my 2001 e46 and would still continue to drive it longer if not for the need to have a bigger car. As such, after agonizing over an X5 4.4 and a 545i, I have decided on the 5 series. My budget will allow for a 2004 545i, however, I am concerned that it is the first model year for the car. I have also considered the e39 540i (which I just recently found a 2002 with less than 22k miles, sport, premium for $28k). Tough choices, however, I want to know what the e60 owners (particularly owners of the 2004 545i) have to say, especially if you've owned an e39. Are there any reliability issues or changes in the vehicle that would cause me to wait for a newer model e60 or possibly even get the e39?

THANKS FOR YOUR THOUGHTS GUYS!

I have not had a bit of trouble with mine. Are you looking for a 6spd. by any chance? I am thinking of selling my 2004 545, it only has 7700 miles on it and it is loaded, even NAV. It is a sport with OEM M-5 wheels, brand new Michelin ps2's, B&B exhaust, & bluetooth. It is immaculate! Send me a PM if you want to hear more. I will be out of town from tonight until Sunday, 5/13.

The earlier production '04s had more problems than the later ones. I suggest going for an '05, and I think the '05s (or maybe the '06s) got the new N52 engines.

I recommend the 540i dude. Those are sweet. You can't go wrong with the e39 styling. Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy it. :)

Just purchased a 2005 CPO 545i with NAV. Awwsome car. I'm a little confused on getting bluetooth going. I have checked this site and see that a build date of after 4/04 can support BT. My build date is 05/04. The vehicle did have a BT PK ( passkey) on the card in the glovebox.

I just don't see the options in the iDrive for it. Also it says to contact BMW for BMW Asssit. Just wondering your thoughts. Vehicle is still under new warranty before CPO kicks in 6/08.

Also I did notice that someting was running after I turned the car off , sounded like a fan in the dash then it shut off. Is that the CD running issue?

Thanks

From the start menu press briefly down on the controller.
Scroll down to the "Communication settings" and select.
Select "Bluetooth" and press controller.
Select "Phone" and press controller.
Once the message "Bluetooth connectable in this menu" is displayed the vehicle is in pairable mode.

here is a link to a video on how to.
