View Full Version : Tinting the 5-series?

Two questions.

1) Does the 2008 5er have a "standard" tint added to the side/rear window(s)?

2) I've ordered a 535i in Black Sapphire Metallic. The interior is Black Leather with Bamboo Anthracite trim. What's more, I ordered the Anthracite headliner, too (so this baby is dark). Anyhow, do you guys think tinting the windows will put this 5-series over the top as it relates to “darkness”? For those that feel tinting will be okay, what amount do you recommend?

Thanks guys...

I own a 07' 530i and the car came with no tints. I put 5% all around and even tinted the windshield with a 35% tint. That is most likely too much for the average person to put on their car. If you like a mild tint I would recommend either 35% or 15%. 35% will give your windows a slightly darker color but you will be able to see inside. 15% will make your windows dark and you'll only be able to see outline of people nothing distinctive.

hope that helped

Thanks guys,

BTW, does tinting make it more difficult to keep the windows clean?

20s all around, and dont touch the windsheild

p.s. no it doesnt, just make sure you dont burn the tints with a cigarette or something (or scratch them)

Does anyone know if tinting will affect the RTTI, radio reception, or remote?

Does anyone know if tinting will affect the RTTI, radio reception, or remote?

I think the "shark fin" is responsible for RTTI and radio, but I honestly don't know about the remote (I assume you're talking about home-link?). If that's the case, than the "receptor" is outside the cabin all together. FYI - Ceramic Tint doesn't block radio waves if you don't have the fin.

Anyhow, do any of you BMW enthusiasts own a black on black BMW with tinted windows? I'd love to see the curb appeal if you do. Most importantly, if you're able to post a picture, please provide the type of tint used.

Thanks guys.

I went with Huper Optik ceramic tint on my '07. I got 30***37; all around (except windshield). I didn't tint my moon roof, it's fine stock.

I don't know about Arizona, but for anyone in Los Angeles: Song's Tint Masters. You can find it on yelp.com

Thanks BimmerGuy! Your car is beautiful. After seeing that picture, I think I'm going to do the exact same with mine. 35% looks about perfect.

35% is the legal limit in Maryland, I think. I wouldn't go darker anyway. Actually it looks a bit darker in real life than the pciture. Good luck.

BG288,

I live in Clarksville (Chapel Woods) as well. Are you happy with the Suntek tint and who did the install?

I just got my windows tinted with 35***37; Sunteks in Maryland and the shop that did the work did a piss poor job on it.... it's got scratches all over it and the film wasn't cut clean....
20***37; looks nice, but feels too dark in my opinion. buddy of mine put 20% all around including the windshield and the car looks like it's a gangster mobile on a run...
I'd recommend 35%
