I was wondering if there are any other oil burner owners around here.

If so lets talk glow plugs and intercooled turbochargers!

Patrick;)

The 320d is quite a car. It has very impressive power for a 4 cylinder. I wish I had the opportunity to test out a 330d, but it hasn't presented itself yet. I am also anxious to see how the newly improved engines for 2002 perform.

Enclose is a pic of my sister's 320d. Its a 99, Steel Blue with Black Cow.

When I saw the subject I was about to chime in to say I'd never even heard of such a thing. We're one of the biggest markets BMW has. Why don't they let us choose from some of the goodies too?

I don't understand that either. I test drove a 330d, Wow, lots of power and torque! That's a really impressive car.

That would make sense then; perhaps some European diesel owners will find their way to this board!

Anyone have a theory about why NA does not get diesel engines?

Another funny: my 4 cylinder 320d is quicker than my neighbor's 6 cylinder 320i. However, what was not surprising is that my car is a LOT slower than my other neighbor's brand new M5 ;)

I guess the 320i isn't imported to NA either ... not "fast enough" perhaps?

Yes, and I believe that there is even a 330dx - the 3.0 diesel with AWD.

The 320d has (off the top of my head) 280Nm of torque, 330d 420Nm. Something crazy like that.

In Finland, the cost difference between a new 330d and 320d is about $10,000.

I haven't driven the 330d, but I did drive a 530d Touring last summer for a week. That thing could have used HAMANN's launch control system!

I would say that about 25% of the taxis here in Turku are either 525d or 530d model. They cars that have done their taxi stints are often for sale here as well with ads like: "1999 BMW 530d A Touring, loaded, driven 320,000 km ..." Yikes. That's a lot in 2 and a half years.

Alex, do the police have BMW diesels in Germany? Thought that I saw something about that somewhere.

Patrick
