bmw x5 engine and abs lights on

just bought a cheap bmw x5 4.4 2003 that I hope with your help I'll get back into top shape again.

There are a few faults but thought I'd start with why the engine and abs warning lights might be on? Engine "seems" to run fine although there are some signs of brake wear. Any pointers greatly appreciated.
