For the more civilized BMW driver, German manufacturer Alpina claims unparalleled luxury and comfort with all the performance of BMW M-division cars. Its latest efforts are the B5 and B7, both powered by the same 4.4-liter V-8 found under the hood of BMW's 545i and 745i, but with a radial compressor-type supercharger. The result: output is up to an M5-matching 500 horsepower, and even more impressive, torque is boosted to 516 lb-ft, compared to the M5's paltry 384 lb-ft. Even though the B5's automatic transmission adds extra weight, M5 drivers would have to push every shift to the rev limiter to keep up. And the B7 would easily leave any 7-series in a cloud of tire smoke. Now Bimmer fans can enjoy the torque previously exclusive to Mercedes-Benz AMG models.

Does Anybody have any info on an Alpina B5 using the new 550's 4.8 liter engine ? Be interesting to compare that car's performance against the E60 M5 don't you think?

seems the B5 is slower (by a lot) than the M5...

I saw the Alpina B7 at the dealer while bringing my car in for service. Car looks nice, I love the spoiler on it. Sticker price (if I remember correctly, was about $130k)

(sorry for the crappy photos)
