Just lost one of my fog lights. It fell out and shattered on the road:cry:

Looks like I either damaged the retaining clip or didnt fit the fog light back correctly when I changed the bulb a couple of weeks ago.

As I have to completely replace one, it seems to be the time to think about a possbile upgrade.

Should I just replace them with the original OEM ones, or is there a better option.

Maybe someone could recommend non OEM ones that are not better but slightly cheaper.

Your thoughts please

I bought Depo clear ones. I am extremely pleased with them. No fogging or anything of that nature, the brackets work well, and the fogs hook in tightly. I doubt they would fall out. I bought mine off eBayand only paid $80 US shipped. (without bulbs)

What type of bulb did you adjust them ? What brand of bulb did you use? I put silverstars in mine, European ones without the blue tint. They are plenty bright especially after I adjusted them properly. I will admit that they throw more light to the sides then forward though.

There's a difference between fog and driving lights. Fogs are all about diffuse light to break through the fog at a lower height than the regular lights. Driving lights are there to assist the regular lights.

Light output is also primarily dependent on what bulb you have, as Jason said. Crap bulbs get crap results.

i just used the bulb that came with the fog lights. i'll try replacing them and adjusting them again. i do agree with you that they shine more to the sides.

maybe i should have tried the projectors instead.

I have just ordered my replacement fog lights.

They are slightly smoked so should go well with the standard BMW 'pornstar' red:D

Can anyone tell me roughly what the cost of replacement clips will cost to hold them in.

Im not sure I trust the old ones.

I assume they are only available from the stealers?

?

fitted my new fogs and bar one bitch of a self tapper that did not want to move install was fairly simply. Be aware that this kit does mean replacing the existing mounting bracket for thr fog lamp.

I cannot post photos now but will later this week (when a girlfriend returns the camera after her trip).

Any one thiking of getting replacement fogs SHOULD go for the smoked option. They are just tinted enough to blend with the lower grill without being the usual almost black.
