I drove both '08 models of 535 and 550.

There is no comparison between the two.

The 550 is a V8 and you can 'feel' the difference: the power!

550 has a commanding heavy feel, accelerates with 'power', while the 535 feel lighter, a feels little less controlled. 535 strains to reach the same speed (even though the 0-60 might be comparable)

The sound of the V8 when it starts is a mean aggressive growl - music to my ears.

If you are deciding between the two, save some extra dough, and go for the 550!
Its worth it.

For business reasons I really didn't want an SUV/SAV so I'm letting go of my 545i and ordered a 535xi. I read your thread, but I didn't have to be told...I always had V-8 s and now I'm back to this six. I so want to cancel the order, but it's been already built. I simply need a car that will take me around with some ease in winter weather. I simply knew the 550i would be quite nice, and I was looking forward to ordering this one with the sports pkg. and having the Active Roll Stabilization as well. All the best with your new car.

So true. The 535 felt like a large version of the 335 while the 550 reminded me a lot of the M5. Plus you can't get the awsome sport package w/ 19's on the 535 like you can on the 550.

Tough choice but I prefer V8 over V6, even if the 6 is turbo.

It's too bad all the new 5's are comming in w/ auto and not a 6 speed. I really wanted to compare the 535 and 550 w/ a stick, but instead I had to drive a 535 and 550 w/ auto, a 335 stick and unfortunately an M5 stick.....I know, boo hoo:cry: Even thought I know my 550 will be awsome, it was dificult spending over 60K on a car I never really got to drive.

I've driven the 545 and 550 with stick, you won't be disappointed. The shift feel is much like that in the 3.

I find it sad that even BMW dealers seem to be ordering sticks less and less often.

For winter weather, it's mostly about the tires. Many people are buying AWD for the winter then sticking with all-season tires. If you've never driven a car with proper winter tires, you'd be amazed at the difference they make.

I wouldn't get all upset over getting the six. It's a great car. And you're paying a lot of money for it, so enjoy it for what it is rather than regret what it is not.

Why are so many people on BMW forums talking about V6s in the cars lately?
