5HP24 ZF Trans problems and reliability?

Hi,

I have the 5hp24 ZF auto transmission and have read that they "blow up" around 60-80K miles. How true is this?

Lately (admittedly I have had this car for only 6 weeks or so), I feel upon heavy acceleration that there is almost a thunk if you will. Normal acceleration is smooth as butter.

Is this normal or anything I should be concerned about? I plan on changing out the ATF around 60k miles.

Hey Whats Up ,,i Just Bought A 97 528i Auto And Have The Same Thing Happen With My Tranny ...its Seems Great And Smooth Too In Normal Driving Conditions But When I Accelerate Hard! U Could Say Its A Thunk Sound Too That I Feel From My Car ..never Slips & Still Shifts Fine ..just A Slight Thunk/kick......maybe This Is Normal ?>??..let Me Know Cause Im Trying To Figure Out The Same Thing ..please Let Me Know

my reverse on my 01 540it isnt going into reverse, so i think it may be true to some extent

I would not say the ZF 5HP24 Trans will blow at 60K miles, but I would highly recommend doing a fluid flush at 60K miles.
