Continued from another thread. I need to know which is bank 1 and which is bank 2 so I can follow them bank to the o2 sensors. I need to replace bank 1 post cat sensor (bank 2 is already replaced).

I could not find this in my Bentley manual. Can anyone help?

Thanks!
David

Yes. It's a long story. Basically the dealer replaced the wrong post cat sensor becuase the wires were crossed. I offered to put the new one in if they gave it to me and they agreed. The alternative was to wait three weeks until they can fit me in to their busy schedule.

I'm new to all this - just got a new jack and stands and haven't even looked under the car yet. Plan to do it this weekend. I just want to make sure I know which bank is which so I replace the bad sensor, not he one they put in already.

Clear as mud? :)

well by looking at them you hsould be able to tell which ones are new and which are old. I just asked someone who should know about this stuff and am waiting for a reply from him. Not sure if hes going to answer today or not. But once i find out Ill send you the word.

ok, i just heard back from my buddy. all he could tell me was bank 1 was for cylinders 1-3 and bank 2 was cylinders 4-6. i doubt this will help you out, but it might be useful.

Found it!

On E36 with M52 Engine:

Bank 1 (cyl 1-3) is front manifold and o2 Sensors are on the driver side (US) exhaust pipe.
Bank 2 (cyl 4-6) is rear manifold and o2 Sensors are on the passenger side (US) exhaust pipe.

I had to call my dealer. The Bentley manual does not make any reference cylinder number or bank number that I could find.

Cheers!
David
