Hi all, i'm a new member to this forum, some pics of my 318is coupe to follow.
Its pretty much stadard withthe exception of 17" m3 4dr alloys (rondell replicas).

I'm getting a loud whirring/spinning noise whenever i press the clutch pedal. The clutch feels normal at the moment but he noise is getting worse over time.

I've booked it in next week but would appreciate some advice before hand as to what the problem could be.

thanks..

Might be mate as you have to drop the gearbox off the engine to get to it

£150 maybe

get them to have a look at the clutch while u r on as if its nearly gone while the box is off will save u a tidy sum. when most thurst bearings go the clutch is not far behind.

I agree. It saves a double labour charge. Just get it all done in the one hit.

I'm not sure on the quality of the parts but he will give me 2yrs warranty.
I will investigate....

Just make sure its not a reconditoned clutch plate.

Their ok for your run around town Ford Fiesta's and the like, but I wouldn't dare put one in a BMW or anything that produces a a good bit of power.

Most of the time you get what you pay for.

Without a doubt mate

Remanufactured clutches can be more hassle then they are worth

2 years on a clutch...is he insane??

You could burn that out/destroy it in one weekend

I agree the whurring noise will be the clutch release bearing or thrust bearing as some call it and its usually caused by just general wear and tear of the clutch or can be caused by the driver "riding" the clutch or a incorrectly adjusted clutch and sproty set offs dont do them any good either.. as as for a recon or remanufactored clutchs dont waste your time as youll 99% be back in the garage within a year just to have the same job done all over agian ..
So all in all id agree with everyone else get a good quality clutch kit and have the whole lot changed in one go just shop around till you can find someone who will fit a part you supply at a reasonable price or someone that will supply and fit a GOOD clutch for you and from past experiance ask to see the box for the new clutch they have fitted and ask to see the old clutch they have removed as there is some people out there who would just stick on a new release bearing and say they`ve done a full new clutch .... Good luck

A good tip if you are supplying parts for 'mechanic's' to fit is to initial them and date them with a permanent marker.

You can be absoultely certain he has done the job the next time round simply by asking to see the old part. It's something I always do.

Its happenned more than once in my 20 odd years of driving that they were not able to produce the part that I knew was in the car. Needless to say they did not get paid and they never got work from me again.
