Do both of these cars have the same engine?
Yep.
With the 135i being smaller, therefore weighing less, shouldn't it be faster than the 335i?
On BMW's website it says the 0-62 in 5.3 seconds.

Mr. D, you have answered half of your question. Now find out what BMW says about the 335i's 0-60 speed :)

It says 5.3 seconds for 0-60...
This is essentially the same speed as the 135i...the 135i is 0-62 in 5.3 and 335i is 0-60 in 5.3...
135i being a smaller and lighter car, shouldn't it be a tad quicker?
However, it does make sense, maybe we'll see the different in the 1/4 mile time..
I see that you drive a Civic Si...myself not being a current BMW owner, are you planning to buy one in the future?

I was just looking it up and their weight is about the same the 335 is 3594 and the 135 is 3438 a difference of 156 lbs. I guess enough to make it go two more mph faster in 60 seconds LOL. Oh boy where do I sign up hehe. I am sure there is more to it than that LOL

BMW always under rates the real times and power/Per.HP....But not by A hole lote...theres alot of things you can do to pick up the HP and times ..113935

That's odd, because somewhere I read it was suppose to be 200-300 pounds lighter than the 3-series...
If the 335i and the 135i have the same exact engine...I guess the next question is whats the weight ratio of the 135i? I read that the 335i is a 50/50 ratio...
EDIT
I just searched on google and the 135i has the same ratio...
So which car would be a better car to tune?

I think I've seen the videos that are out for the 135i unless it's a non-commercial?
I saw the 3 episodes, and 4 videos of the car being driven around a track and interior and exterior of the car...

That site doesn't know any more than we do about the 135i.
Here's what we do know, unladen weight from BMW.com:
130i (5 door) = 1460 kg
330i (4 door) = 1555 kg
330i coupe = 1545 kg
The 2 door may be lighter than the 5 door 1 series, with less sheet metal. So expect it to be 200+ lbs lighter.
And the 335i coupe does 0-62 in 5.5 seconds, vs 5.3 for the 135i.

This is kind of off topic, but what type of rims are on your car? I like them.....

This is kind of off topic, but what type of rims are on your car? I like them.....They appear to be OZ Superleggera (which, BTW, is Italian for "super light").
Popular with autoxers and track junkies because they're light, relatively strong, and reasonably priced.

Mr. D -
Yes, I drive my civic SI right now. I intend to get a 335i sedan in a few years. I'm a young up-and-comer (hopefully continuing that way) and am waiting for my overall financial situation to allow a 335 without breaking any other habits, like having no debt and being able to go out to dinner with my wife on a frequent basis :)
I joined the BMWCCA in April of this year, to utilize the rebate. I'm going to push my wife get get either a 328 wagon 6-spd or X3 stripper 6-spd on a 2-3 year lease...but whatever she decides to get, she'll get :)
So...in a couple of years, I'll be a happy owner of a BMW one way or another :)

They are using a taller geared differential on the 135i. That is why the numbers aren't as good as they should be. with a better differential in place that has better gearing along with a LSD you will see the numbers from 0-60 MPH drop. Add some lighter weight wheels with better traction tires and the numbers will be dropping quite a bit. I predict around 4 seconds for that car with proper tuning:D

Also popular with cheap bastards like myself. They were $199, and 17.6 lbs I think. :)

the ratio is 3:08 on both. They are the same. ;)

If you go the BMW UK site they have the weight of the 1 series coupe at @ 3,084 lbs. if my conversion rate is correct. The 5.3 0-60 times maybe because of different gearing as BMW does not a cheaper model 'showing up' a more expensive model.

The video link on the BMW.de site claims a "minimal" weight of 5.1 kg / PS (11.24 lbs / hp). Don't know why they're using power-to-weight ratio in a claim about handling/agility, but whatever. I didn't find anything worthwhile on the coupe in a brief trip to the UK site mentioned above.
That puts the 135i at 3,439 lbs (306 PS * 5.1 kg = 1560 kg = 3,439). Sounds about right to me. Ok, so it's obviously lighter than the 335i - but still heavier than an E46 touring! Even if that number is somehow wrong or I've misinterpreted it, you people thinking the car will be anywhere near 3000 lbs or somehow be 300+ lbs lighter than the 335i are off your rockers. Even in the hatch-to-coupe transition, there's absolutely no way the 135i will weigh less than the current 130i (~3200 lbs), unless BMW has somehow pulled off a miraculous weight reducing engineering effort (including the use of first-to-market composites, expensive aluminum/magnesium alloys, and an amazing new use of the old Italian "superleggera" tube construction) in a reskin of their cheapest model. Yeah - right.
I've seen no hard evidence (yet) to suggest that the coupe will be significantly lighter than the hatch. In fact, the numbers on BMW's own German language site suggest otherwise.
How do I figure they're talking about the 135i? The term "minimal" is awfully vague - it could mean the best PW ratio, or the worst. I eliminated "worst" because 5.1 kg / PS in a 128i would be around 2580 lbs - obviously impossible, as that's far lighter than even a stripped 116i. Of course, the 135i will have a much better PW ratio than the 128i, despite being heavier. Secondly, there seems to be no reference to or mention of a naturally aspirated six - only the N54 and the four cylinder diesels.
I'd imagine this means that the 135i is the launch model, along with one or two of the available diesel engines (probably 123d/120d), with the N/A versions to follow shortly thereafter (remember, the US doesn't get the car until Spring of 08'), so it's reasonable to assume that they're talking about a loaded 135i.

I do think there is a whole lot of wishful thinking about the weight and price of the 135i. IMHO, the likelihood of a 3200 lb., $35,000 fully loaded 135i are about slim to none.
This is BMW remember? They nickel and dime you with every option (hello!? fold-down backseat costs EXTRA). $40K will not be out of the question for a loaded 135i.
And given that it has the same engine as the 335i and does not have a carbon fiber roof, you can expect the 135i will be a 3400-ish lb. vehicle.
So for a few grand less than a 335i you get something slightly smaller, different styling, 100-200 lbs. lighter, only available in a coupe, but with the same engine.
For me, I like the 1-series styling and I don't need a sedan, so I'm game. :-)
