Well boys i joined the dark side and i will be spending some time over there to learn about these cars and so on. It is a good running little car and it has replaced the 325i for the time being, but i still own it. It is just sitting in the garage collecting dust and sitting up on jack stands. Just doing some mechanical work to it and general maintance. The price was right 700 USD, 5spd, cold A/C better then the BMW, strong engine with 173k on the clock. If somethings fall into place this car will be a track rat as well. :)

Having a secondary car is almost as important as having a car period. That's my daily driver, grocery getter and trash can bowler. :D My bimmer is just a weekend warrior.

No i havent really gone mental or anything. I have always like Acura's and some Toy's. The price was right and if wanted to track this thing or what ever it would cost me 1/8 of what it would on the bimmer.

Plus it is a winter car for now and a DD.

I have seen some out there and they do a pretty good job. granted it wont handle like the 325 but i bet i can still go out and have a good time with it and it something happens well i am not out alot of money trying to fix it. That car has some pretty power to it and with the right mods it will be a damn quick little car.

Hey, if it gets you from point A to B decently comfortable and you don't wanna take the Bimmer, then good for you.

Personally, I don't understand the point of having something like a BMW that comfortable and smooth and fun to drive, only to take it out now and then. But that's just me. I know yours is a track car, so that makes sense, since it needs to be well kept and its more for race anyway.

But many of the Supra guys would mod their cars and make them trailer queens. I never understood it. We're not talking about track cars either..

Most people will drive a different car for a DD and leave the bimmer for a fun spring/summer toy. It seems like people are starting to door ding at work and other crap so i said enough is enough and bought the rolla. I would never make my car a trailer queen. I build them to be used on the track and off the track.

Yeah it is getting more and more of a track car then a street car. The coilover suspension is killing me sometimes when just drving around town, but i do take it out here and there in town on the nice twisty roads.

Oh, I forgot, you're in the midwest huh?

I've only lived in sunny California, so all cars are all season. Only see snow when I drive 5 hours to Tahoe, and even then I've never actually seen snow *fall*.

I actually wanna see that. But not have to live in it.

I have a car that's much more fuel efficient. I work 5 days a week, 13 miles from home. Plus our company's lot is in the middle of ghetto Hollywood. I don't wanna pay for premium fuel 2-3 times a month, I don't wanna put 200 miles a week on my bimmer, and I most DEFINITELY don't want to park it in a lot right in the middle of ghetto Hollywood and go upstairs to my office with my fingers crossed from 6 to 3. Wanna key the Eagle? Go for it! Have fun.

I'm hopefully gonna have my beater 1989 sentra back eventually, I gotta do as much in repairs to it as I paid for the car last year though..and it's got over 315k on the odo now(i've put at least 130k of that on there)..but it still freaking runs and decently! :P

I picked up the bmw to replace my totalled Talon(I hate drunk drivers) so i'd have something, hopefully, a bit more comfortable and less worrysome to drive until late october when winter starts to roll around here in TN, which by then I should have the tires, axles, struts, springs, oil pump, headlights, and clutch back in tip-top shape and ready to take over duty while the bmw takes a nap in the garage until Febuary...

At my age (and being married AND a Paw Paw), I'm not too concerned that the women don't look at me when I'm driving my '94 Eclipse with 210,000 miles, a bit of rust, faded paint, no radio, sagging headliner, small dents here and there second car. It still runs great, gets me 30 mpg, and has yet to leave me stranded.

But, man, it is tough to walk out of the house every morning, look at that beautiful BMW, and then crawl into a rice burner.

However, I've already promised my grandson that I'm giving him the Bimmer when he gets his license, and I'm going to live up to that promise.

yeah i cant beat the mpg i am getting with this thing. 30 in town and 35 or so highway.

As far the girls i think it is just funny how they react to someone that is driving a certain car. I dont car to much i just think it is funny as i have a women as u see in the avitar and she was even willing to pay for the rolla as well.

I dont make that much money but i know how to work on cars and where to get my parts cheap :D. My car insurance isnt much as i am 30+ and have several services going with my agent.

Not anymore !!! SOLD!!!! But, Engine is German and the parts are German + it gets more performance than the U.S. models even!!

And, BMW is not as cheap as an import(Totytas, NIssans, Mitsu's. .. .) Honda is still the best Jap. till now.

If you think youre Eagle is better than your Bimmer, one question.
Why the Hell do you still own it ?

My current BMW is pure German build!!! And, not much of a difference betwen the quality of it and it's imported sister.

I must disagree here, having worked on all of the above, Honda only wins on the best exhaust notes of the 3 when it comes to the 4 bangers. Nissan and Toyota have always had higher quality cars with comparable MPG and better handling, plus are MORE reliable. In the 4 years I've worked in the automotive industry, I've never personally seen a Honda product with over 200k miles on an original engine, but have seen Toyotas and Nissans with 300k plus on an original engine...

When you go pre 1994 however, all of the 3 major japanese companies at the time were pretty much the same thing, with different bodies... Mitsubishi was still fully under the umbrella of Dodge back then and most Mitsubishi labeled cars were Dodge built here in the USA...and that's still somewhat true with the exception of like.. the Lancer Evolution..

To me they're all cars, and they'll all have flaws and die eventually, just live with it and move on..

Why's Toyota the ultimate driving disgust? I find Toyota and Nissan to be very comfortable, a breeze to drive, economical and long lasting. My local mechanic has a Maxima with 370k ticks on the original engine, still going strong. You gotta realize that not all cars are built for performance.

As for 4-bangers exhaust notes... S2000 ftw. The exhaust note of a 350Z/G35 coupe gives me a hard-on as well.

I'm praying that you know that those(the nissan and infiniti) are V6s ;):p, And I almost completely agree with you on the S2000 exhaust note as far as NA goes, I've always been a fan of the 4g63T in the Evo and Eclipse/Talon though, although the throaty and raw sound of a subaru flat-4 is appealing as well..

I know they're V6's. What do I look like, an amateur?! When it comes to the I4's the S2000 is the winner. Suby's boxer engine sounds pretty unique too, but my favorite is the 3.5L V6 in the 350Z/G35 coupe.

I don't know what you look like, I can't see through the internet..I was just teasing you about that anyway... as for my favorite, I don't think you can really beat the 2JZ for sound out of an engine with less than 8 cylinders.. it's just such a smooth sound.. the Vq35 is a very close 2nd place..

07-15-2007, 01:55 AM
no, not all toyotas and hondas are disgust. Honda NSX, Prelude and S2000, plus Civics with VTI engines are fun. I love their engines. Toyota, I'd say their best things are the Celica 4WD Turbo, Supra and I even like the modern Celica a little bit but Toyota hasn't made any good engines for it so big shame there. Nissan - except the Z they don't make anything that looks good... Bar that Infinity FX 45 SUV, love that thing, I think in intimidation factor only X5 beats it.

So whats lef of Honda, Toyota and Nissan range? Automotive porrige. Boring cars with plasticky gray interiors and boring looking seats. Yes, it's reliable, it's simple and will run for miles and miles without too much trouble... or would it? The thing at least with Toyota is that they never fix parts but just replace them with brand new ones (Lexus same story). So this greatly contributes to the myth of bulletproof reliability of Toyota in modern days (which is worsened then in 90s, it's a fact toyota acknoledges fully, because of the huge number of cars they make these days quality is diluted). I mean you can advocate them as reliable means of transportations, fine, but styling wise they are garbage, especially the 90s models. Maxima? Please. How about Sentras and Altimas? Yuk! :) not for me and I worked in Nissan dealership plus test drove all sorts of Honda, Toyota, and Nissan cars (full range).

So yes, Honda, Toyota and Nissan have some great cars in their range, but you can afford hardly any of them. S2000? I can't. Nissan 350z? My girlfriends' sister's husband had that car. It's brilliant, the sound of the V6 and all that - but the guy is 10 years older then me and only now bought it. it's expensive car. Supra is just mad car which i probably wouldnt want to own anyway, im not a street racer. Preludes and Civics of course affordable - and I actually test drove those cars before buying a BMW. The fact that you guys allow for them a 2nd place in your garage and not first means thats about what they are good for on average. just transport.

Exactly. Why not let a cheap car do my dirty work? Why should my bimmer have to suffer over 1000 miles per month and being parked alone under the scorching sun in a gang-infested area, while my beater sits safely at home comfortably in the shade? Why should I stuff dirty car parts and heavy appliances in the back seat of my bimmer and dirty/destroy the expensive leather? If you have that option, it's just senseless not to do it.

well v33, obviously you have no choice but to do this. hardly its your fault, except you can try to get a job somewhere where this isnt such a problem... I lived 1 hour away from my job if you consider traffic, and with public transport it was 45min. It took me a good year, but i got tired of this so much, that i moved next to my job (5 min walking) and yes, my housing cost is like 100% higher but worth every penny.... but of course, i work in center of city so its not so crime fested area (not usually).

2JZs are the MKIV Supra and IS300 Engine, they all sound pretty much the same, execept the boosted ones make sucking and blowing noises.. :eeps: Vq35 is the 350Z and the G35 engine, vq30 is the v6 in the 300Z run of cars which isn't too awful in sound, but not as great as what's already been mentioned... and the v6 in the 3rd-4th Generation Eclipse sounds nice with the proper exhaust...

I personally have owned Toyota's, Honda's, Acura's, and pretty much all of your USA Manufactures....FOr the Foreign owned companies i prefer Toyota's. I think they handle much better and will def last longer. My honda and Acura both crapped out way early and didnt care for them all that much...But really i am not looking to get much out of this car except going from point A to point B. This car is my Daily Driver and it will also keep the 325i in nice condition and away from those flipping idiot's who like to door ding cars. Also it is like v33nod3 mention about hauling dirty crappy items around in the beater and not the bimmer..

I'd never give this job up. It might be in the middle of ridiculously crowded Hollywood, but at 4:30 in the morning, traffic is hardly an issue. Loot is very nice too. Xenon interior lights have been installed, Projecto46's and UUC's SSK are on the way as we speak, and I'm expecting an M-technic body kit, 18" CSL replicas, the ACS trunk spoiler and probably a Vorsteiner hood within a few months.

My previous Toyota Supra interior was built better in 1991 than the Bimmer I'm driving now.

Sorry guys, its the truth.

That 7M Turbo straight six sung, too bad they couldn't make a decent headgasket.....

Not that I don't love my Bimmer a ton, I'm just saying...don't be so narrow minded.

Oh, and hardly anything beats the sound of a twin turbo 2JZ except a burbling V-8. No 6cyl can match the sound.

To each his own.
I liked the way my 7M sounded under 12psi of boost, but it was a much rougher engine, nowhere near as smooth as the Bimmer engine.

The 2JZ's though....

Either way, for 91, the features on mine were amazing as well. Power everything, including power adjustable lumbar & side bolsters. Leather. Tilt/Telescope wheel, airbags (in 91!), Adjustable Electronic Dampers for the springs (TEMS), Digital Auto Climate Control, CD + Tape player, 10 speakers, and lots of room. My favorite part was the targa roof.
I really did love that car a lot.

Like I said, though, this one is awesome as well!

I think second cars are great. I picked up my 1999 323iC on Friday and everyone want's to know when I am going to get rid of my 1992 Ford Thunderbird. I'm not as my insurance is cheaper with a second car and there are places here in L.A. I would never think of taking my Black Beauty to and leaving it unattended.
