You would only change your piston rings during a major overhaul of your engine. you have to actually remove the pistons and a whole bunch of other stuff to change them. It's not like changing spark plugs or something of that nature.

I know that... the problem is that the engine compression is low at all pistons, and it seems to be the piston rings cause of wearing....

Then i'd say its time to change them wouldn't you?:)

+1
THis is not for the timid though. Exposing pistons, especially on a BMW is a major task!

Maybe I can help here Being a retired NIASE mechanic.
step one Jack up the car
step two Remove gas cap
step three jack down car and throw away (the car) you may need the jack again
step four, go to local BMW dealer find new BWM of your choice
step five remove new gas cap and throw away (the gas cap) you will need the car
step six install old gas cap.
step seven, check for leaks, if none project complete.
now was that easy or what???

seriously, this is a major undertaking that will involve the replacement of not just the rings, the cylinders will need to be at least honed, maybe bored out, rods reconditioned, valve job, new gaskets, how about the clutch if the engine is out of the car now is the time to do it, drive shaft, lets check that too, water pump, battery on its last legs?
its like an 80 year old man that has "ED" if we fix that the rest of his body may fail, my first option is easier and may even be cheaper.

Not a nice job at all :(
The rings could need changing at any mileage buddy, just depends how the car has been cared for in the past
If you have low compression, then you either -
1 - Live with it (not good)
2 - Change them (not easy, very expensive if you dont do it yourself and also a PITA)
3 - Get a new engine (expensive but easier than number 2)
4 - Get a new car (easy option but not always practical)
