What the heck is this

Hello again folks,

went to remove the trunk rug cover on the right inner fender to replace the rear shocks
but there is this "trip wire" attached to it that leads back to a small box about the size of a pack of cigarettes... Is this part of the BMW "security" system... cutting this fill fire off the Claymore mine and blow me up... this BMW has more surprises:):) than a honeymoon night!!!

The same exat thing happen to me this morning (I am also putting on new shocks) but the "wire" that snapped when I pulled out the right side lining was just plastic - no actual wire. It did actually break at the end where there was some odd shaped connection???
