I'm about to pull the trigger on an E90 335 lease. My CA is back on Monday and that is when I plan on finalizing details. I'd prefer to get an 07 so I won't have to deal with any price escalations that might come in 08. Another dealer explained that they didn't have any more production slots open for 07. Is that the case for most dealerships at this point? I'll ask my CA on Monday but figured I'd ask here to see what I can expect.

If 07 production slots are rare at this point, can a car that is already in production but not accounted for be "intercepted'. Another dealer I spoke to said he found a very similar car that was on its way to some other state. He said it is possible to intercept it and have it shipped here instead. Is that true and if so, is it relatively easy and common to do?

Sorry for all the questions. Your help is appreciated.

Some might have available slots left for '07's for Sept delivery, otherwise, the CA can run a locate and trade for the car you want if the other dealer is willing to give it up.It's best when they haven't landed in the US yet, then there's no additional shipping charge to get the car,it can just be routed to the selling dealer.Good Luck !

Not sure how long you plan to keep the car, but the difference of any price increase should be offset by the increased resale value of having a model year that is one year newer.

I am leasing and then returning back so there is no advantage in terms of resale for me. I'd agree with you if I was planning on a purchase.

So, for the dealers here, are 2007 production slots rare at this point?

I think so, but you'd have to jump on them tomorrow, literally, if they haven't gone into 150 status yet. I have two left in 112 status trying to hold them out in case someone wants to order one.

Thanks for the help.

What is 150 status and 112 status?

Do all dealers have the same ability to intercept a car?

Another dealer told me about one that he found that was on it's way to another state but that he might be able to capture. Should the dealer I am working with be able to do the same (assuming he does not have a production slot)? I really want to work with this person, but I don't want ot lose the car either.

112 is still modifiable and 150 means it can't be changed anymore. You dealer could be in the same boat by having something that can still be changed or maybe just trading a production slot with another dealer.

My dealer did not have a production slot but said that he will try and trade for one with another dealership. This process could take a few days I am told. Does this timeframe make sense or should I be worried?

I'm confident it will all work out, but am just a bit paranoid from being screwed over by dealers here in NY. This CA is in NJ and so far seems to be a great guy.

Did they also run a locate to be sure there is nothing that could work for you ?

He will do that on Thursday when he is back. I was just wondering if the process really takes a few days to trade for a production slot. I talked to him today and asked him if he could do a locate for a car that is close to what I want (although I'd rather not give up any options/colors). He said no problem.
