After exactly 15 weeks of waiting, I just got my delivery date.
On November 2nd, at the Welt, I'll be taking delivery of a Carbon Black 550i, with the sport package and a manual transmission (as God Himself intended ).
It has been quite a process. I started by ordering a 335 on April 9th, only to be denied after a 6 week wait, due to lack of cars. I then switched to a 535, and began another long wait.
However, that too changed once I made a fateful trip to the dealer, and fell in love with a carbon black 550 on the lot. After several failed attempts at rationalization, I finally succeeded in talking myself into to a 550. Unfortunately, I'm eating a bit of crow, after affirming the virtues of the 535 over the 550 and firmly stating that I won't get another black car.
Fortunately, crow surprisingly tastes like filet mignon in this instance. :)

BTW, are their deliveries on 11/2?
It's a holiday on the calendar. Perhaps they're more flexible with the addition of Saturday deliveries.

Congrats on the choice and date. That makes 3 of you w/ a Carbon Black 550i. That's a sexy machine, I keep seeing posters for it in ORD. Enjoy the filet and Dom Perignon.

Congrats. I've tentatively got an 550i ED picked on 10/30, based just on what BMWNA told me verbally over the phone (hasn't been confirmed with a production number yet). How long did you have to wait for a production number?
By the way, you should edit your calendar entry to include your username.

Bah!! Dom, with filet? I would go for a 1990 Chateau Lagrange. Not too expensive, should be able to track it down.

Mine is verbal as well. My CA got a voicemail from the ED department. I seem to think I got a production number about 60 days prior to delivery.

Thanks, will do.

iversonm,
That is great! You have come over to the dark side! Carbon black is almost like a drug -- the more you see it the more you want to look at it. I just loved mine in Europe. (Now if I could just get it back.)
I too swore off black (4 of my last 5 cars have been black), but here I am.

Hi! My name is Mike, and I have a problem...

Excruciating, isn't it. In some ways, I can't believe I'm doing this again.
