The Freimann U-Bahn stop is scheduled to be closed from July 28th to Sept 10th. If you are planning to take the U-bahn to the delivery center, time to look at alternatives. There is going to be a bus between the adjacent stations. . .

Fixed. Spelling is not my strong point, even in English.

I'm due to pick up on the 13th. Should I take a cab from the North Marriott, or trust to German Efficiency to have it done when planned?

Horrors! I was planning on getting to the delivery center this way. Herr Spira...perhaps some translating is called for here? Although I can speak the language...well, my version of it anyway, all those nouns put together in one word make my eyes go crossed! Am I right is saying that we'd have to get off at Studentenstadt and take a bus (#106) to Freimann?
Related question...is it walking distance from the Garching Ubahn stop to MADA?

100% correct!

It isn't that far from Studentenstadt to the Delivery Center. You could just walk. Kierfengarten might be better for walking.
Depending on where your hotel is, there are also several bus options.

If the weather in nice, we've decided to walk from our hotel to the delivery center. Its only a few miles. Otherwise we will get a Taxi or maybe take a bus. Debbie had a near miss with the London bombings 2 years ago and doesn't want to get on the U-Bahn...

Ok, thanks for the additional info! I don't have a problem with walking a bit....since I know I'll be driving back to the hotel in a particularly nice car!
Any input on my second question.....walking distance from MADA to the Garching station?
PS
Alfred G...."upper Bavaria" you say? Near Wurzburg by any chance?

Depends on what you consider "near" ;)
Upper Bavaria is the blue part in this map (="Oberbayern") in the South with Munich as capital. Red Mark where I live.

Würzburg is the capital of Unterfranken (lower Franconia) in the North West of Bavaria.

Thanks for the quick geography lesson!
Ok, one more, hopefully easy but somewhat off-topic question;
The shield/coat of arms we often see with various combinations of blue and white....does each one represent a different stadten (sp) in Deutschland?

Do you mean the lozenges? The stand for Bavaria.

Yes, that is exactly what I was referring to. I'd like to pick one up for the car while I'm in Germany. I'm sure one of the many relatives I'll be seeing will point me in the right direction. Thanks very much for the information.

You could walk from the Garching U-Bahn station to MADA, but my guess is that the walk will be about a mile or so. I cannot recall if there is a sidewalk along the road (my memory says no, but my memory is known to be faulty!), and if there isn't, you may have to walk on the grass on the side of the road. There is also a bus that will take you from the U-Bahn station and drop you off close to MADA.

I took a cab from the Marriott North to the Delivery Center. It cost 12 Euros (with tip) and took about 10 min. I decided that a cab would be more convenient than the U-Bahn because my family and I had some luggage with us.

Good idea! You better let Uncle Heinz and Aunt Irmgard pick the right sticker for you (I read the other thread...:rofl:)
If they're genuine Franconians (you said they live in Würzburg) they might not even be too enthusiastic about seeing the Bavarian coat of arms

on your new Bimmer. The Franconians still feel somehow annected by the "real" Bavarians since 1803... (no kidding).
I hope this will improve after finally in September Bavaria will have for the first time a Frankonian Minister president! Günther Beckstein: A good man BTW.

Thanks. I will not have much luggage, but I will have a wife along. Was it easy to get a cab?

Alfred G,
Yes, I can tell by the picture that he's a good guy! A little more background...my family is originally from an area near the Barisheyer (sp) Wald, Jandellsbrunn. They moved to near Wurzburg after the war. So, they identify themselves much more with their original home town....perhaps a bit more "Bavarian" then where they are now.

You'll find a bunch of cabs parked right outside the Marriott North hotel. The doorman will get one for you in ajiffy. No sweat!

Thanks for the feedback!
It's 8PM here in Munich and I was going to use the U6 to pick-up my new car in the morning. Good thing I checked here first!
Guess it's a cab for me!

CarSwami,
Thanks for the Garching info. I had also emailed Thomas at MADA and he said it was about a 20 minute walk from his office to the Garching U-bahn stop...so a mile or so sounds about right. He also mentioned a quick bus ride that would bring me back to the U-bahn stop. I guess the weather will make my decison for me.

We took the bus to the s-bahn. Very easy. Check out the pdf from this thread for the station locations.

Hey guys, I just took delivery this week and had to take the bus back to Freimann. THIS WORKAROUND IS VERY SIMPLE AND EASY! Take the U6 to the stop after Freimann and then get on bus 106 just outside the u-bahn station and get off on the first stop. Walk 300 meters down the road and you'll arrive at the BMW Delivery Center on your right. This was very, very, very easy! AND the bus system uses the same pass as the u-bahn, there is no extra toll.

Please note that the U-Bahn may also be affected by the train strike expected to start from Wed Aug 8th.

I did my pickup Aug. 9 and was a little stressed about the U6 thing. But as the previous post noted, it works just great. I actually got off U6 the stop before, Studentenstadt or something, walked up, and the bus was ready and waiting. Took it to the second stop and got off for the two block walk to BMW. Even a bit closer than the U-Bahn stop.
No problem.
