Came out today. Sorry about the poor quality fax. In a nutshell, the main differences are:

- New "Sport Activity Package" for non-Sport Pkg X3's. Includes a new "sport steering wheel" (different from the M Sport steering wheel in the normal Sport Pkg), running boards, shadowline trim, and 18" Style 205 wheels (previously available as a standalone option for 2007 X3's without Sport Pkg.).

- HD Radio now available as a standalone option.

- 18" wheels are no longer available as a standalone factory option. You must get the new Sport Activity Pakage or the regular Sport Package, or buy wheels as an accessory from your BMW Dealer.

Otherwise, all else looks the same, including colors and availability of Priority 1 options for Brushed Aluminum Trim, and Teracotta and Tobacco leather.

One question that does come to mind is the "563 Ambient Light Package" that appears as part of the Mobile Assistance Package. That's a new addition for 2008 and would seem to refer to the new Ambient Lighting mentioned in the 08 Product Bulletin posted here a couple weeks ago. However, nothing is mentioned about it on the ordering guide except under the Mobile Assistance Package. The product bulletin, however, said ambient lighting was a new feature to signifigantly enhance the existing Premiumn Package (not Mobile Assistance Package). I wonder where the mistake is, the earlier product bullentin or this new ordering guide?

Thanks for the hookup!

The ambient light package is described in the earlier pre-release bulletin that is Stickied at the top of the X3 subforum by Jon. It is included in the premium package as I can see under "563 Ambient Light Package". Details about its contents are on that bulletin.

The Mobile Assistance Package is not for consumer use. It is probably the configuration for the BMW Roadside Assistance vehicle. It's been there in the past model years and continues to be that way.

Yes, you're right. Ambient Light Package is listed under the Premium Package. I missed it when I first read it.

So except for the Ambient Light Package now included in the Premium Package, and the optional HD Radio reception, there's really no significant different for anyone considering buying an X3 with Sport Package (as I am), besides an as-yet-unannounced price increase.

The new Sport Activity Package seems light a nice idea for folks who want some of the cosmetic features of the Sport Package (18" wheels, sport-style steering wheel, shadowline trim, etc.) without the firmer suspension or seats of the regular Sport Package.

Here's a pic from the European press launch of the 2007 X3 showing the running boards that are apparently part of the new Sport Activity Package. This photo shows an X3 that is clearly DOESN'T have the Sport Package.

The Activity Package isnt a new thing; rather it's just new to the US. Other countries and Europe and even Canada have had this option for a couple years now.

The good thing about this package is you can get a heated sport steering wheel. This also has been available in Europe with the non //M sport wheel.

So in essence, nothing new except for HD radio. Just more choices. And that's always a good thing

So the I suppose this is the "sport" steering wheel that comes with the Sport Activity Package? No "M" logo, but it's a 3-spoke "sport" wheel.

No, No, and No. Hybrid you may have read about online was a concept shown last year, not a real model for MY08. Diesels are already available in other markets besides U.S. No annoucenments about that for U.S. yet. More power, idrive, etc., won't be coming until next major X3 redesign, probably for 2010 model year.

Your answers are all in the bulletin. No to everything.

Rumors say BMWNA may give us a diesel X3 mid-year or maybe 2009. In any case it will be some time after the X5 diesel, if ever.

BMWs diesel hybrids aren't true hybrids. They shut off the engine when at a stop and use complex alternator management to improve fuel economy.

Mobile Assistance package is for the car used to come out and help customers.

We aren't supposed to be able to order one.
