yes, its an easy mod. Order the parts from Pacific 800-909 part and have them shipped. Take them to a paint shop and install them your self.

Keep in mind that this glass is aspheric- like Euro mirrors, AND electrochromatic- they dim when hooked up to your rear view mirror. Also keep in mind that I am *looking* at the quote sent to me 01/27/03 before you call me wrong- which I am not.

you are right, the prices are much higher now.

I dunno fellas, but what's the point of installing M5 mirrors?Certainly not for fold away purpose (because that function is offered in europe, and you can certainly get parts for the existing 5er mirrors to fold.

Having said that, as an M owner, I can't think of one reason that a person want to install the oval M5 side mirrors other than for indentification purpose.

flame away..

Hey beewang,
Have you seen those blocks that they call mirrors on the 530. That is why. The oval shape looks alot nicer then the m3 look that hamann or hagas sales, and the Ac ****s looks like the m5's anyway.

beewang, not really gonna flame but all I see from M5 owners is non stop b-i-t-c-h-i-n-g about E39 owners adding M tech bumpers, and how they are posers, etc.. etc..

I get the impression M5 owners are nothing but cry babies. With this said, if I had $1K to spend on mirrors I would do the same thing.

1) They look better
2) More aerodynamic

I wonder how long it took for the E36 M owners to simmer down when other non M E36 owners started putting M bumpers, and mirrors on their cars?

Bee I had the M5 mirrors installed becasue they blow away all the other aftermarket ones. They are very well made, unlike the ACS ones for more money.
Only regret I have is that the E46 M3 CF ones weren't available when I bought mine.
I refuse to put the M5 bumpers on my car for this very reason. Then again its hard to be called a wannabe when the real M5 is always behind you trying to catch up LOLOLOL

The 3.15 is a diff, the stock 540 has a 2.92. This is the best bang for the buck.

What I think is even more funny is that BMW made the '03 540 sports with the "M appearance package" finally available in the US. Though this is only the bumper covers and they're slightly different, it endorses what those who like the look have been saying all along. You *can* have a 540 with M features and it's ok. The factory says so.:neener:

The stock 504i6 is a 2.81- not 2.92. Click here (http://www.bmwusa.com/site_layout/models/0353/0353_techdata.cfm) for BMWUSA specs.

I concur with this thought. The 3er sedan suffers from the same problem ---- except the M3 mirrors aren't an easy bolt-on. I too couldn't stand the OEM 'bricks' --- so did an ACS switch.

Prop, so i'm bit confused. Did or didn't the US version of E39 M5's came with auto power fold outside mirrors? I'm hearing conflicting reports on this.

Also does the mirrors, the -891 and -892 parts, do they come with the necessary motor to do auto power fold with those switch modules?

So just for fun i looked up E39 M5 outside mirrors on Europe version of M5s and these mirrors have differnet part numbers,

51162694893 - Mirror left
51162694894 - Mirror right

Are these the one with the folding motor and i should be getting these mirrors instead?

Also do i need to get the actuator left/right sides separately?

Thanks much!

Thanks much! The US M5's all auto-folded from the factory. The housings will have the motor to fold up inside.

According to ETK, the fold up motor actuator part number is
51-16-7-895-217
and -218

the actuator is included in the housings.

The 893 and 894 housings refer in ETK to the 891 and 892 parts, which means they're the same.

Thanks for looking this stuff up. Turns out today our local BMW dealer had on lot CPO 2002 E39 M5 and peeked inside and sure enough had the mirror fold up button at the driver side.

So looks like the only difference in E39 M5 mirrors between US and Europe is the mirror glass type, i.e. plane versus convex kinds.
