Today, I put a large dog kennel in the back of our X5. It required both rear seats down, and a towel on top of the kennel as it nearly contacted the headliner. I was pretty impressed!
The X5 is not huge (cargo-wise), but it seems to have plenty of practical cargo area.

If it smells like fish....
X5 kicks as a tow vehicle!

The Ultimate Towing Machine...
I've owned several towing vehicles inthe past ~ nothing
comes close to doing the job that the X5 does.
It's kind of dangerous actually.
You have so much confidence (cuz it handles like a Bimmer),
and you go too fast...

Not an X5, but nevertheless---
We got an entire Ikea kitchen into our ML... including the countertop. Always fun to throw $5k worth of a kitchen into your vehicle and laugh at the bonehead beside you trying to strap a couch onto their Civic with Ikea grade twine!
On another occasion, I was moving lockers and got 5x Type 43 wheels with tires, 4 ML320 wheels plus tires (you never realize how small and light car tires are until you lug SUV tires around!) 4x Type 44 wheels without tires plus a set of skiis into it. You don't want to be doing any stunt driving with so much crap in there.
