View Full Version : AndyM: BBS RG-r. Let's see them.
Dad called me at work today freaking out that you were throwing your life away on car parts. I of course have not mentioned the motorcycle. Or the $4000 RS-gt's I am planning.
Let's see pics. High res. Lots of 'em. On car, please.

None of the pics capture what they really look like...The second to last pic is pretty close though. With any luck, the sun will actually come out in the next week and I can get some better pics.
18"x8.5" all around with Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position 225 in the front and 255 in rear.

 Whose DTM exhaust is that? The tips looked rolled, or is that an illusion?

Now if only the car had a few miles on it...
My black car is coming up on 50k, the gray one has 20k on it and I've thoroughly enjoyed putting every single tenth of a mile on those cars.
You don't know what you're missing;)

Not that I'm doubting you, but the amount of sidewall overhang past the rim edge (rimrash protection) looks to be about the same, and you sure would think the 255's wuld hang over a whole lot nore on the same rims.

Absolutely gorgeous. And thanks for NOT posing on the car in your bikini.
The new leatherZ website is 10,000x better too. Congrats!

 and assuming you went 225/40/18 ad 255/35/18, then the section width would be a bit over an inch more on the rear. Must be the camera angles.:dunno:
Hmm, couldn't you have put on a wheel with less offset in the back? Those wheels would look sweet with more dish.

You could if it were an M coupe. That's the best you can do on a Z3 coupe.
RS-gt: 22mm offset with 10mm spacer.
RG-Rs shown are 38mm offset.
I don't understand why almost all aftermarket wheel companies insist on running so little offset, particularly fixed fitments where a certain configuration is only going to go on certain cars (eg. E36/E46).
This makes the car look more raised and you start to need to worry about fender lip clearances and such. In addition, BBS USA in particular insists on combining this offset with 8.5" width which only makes this worse. BBS Japan knows what they're doing. The RG-R fitments they offer make far more sense to me.
My Alpinas are OEM offset (18x8ET47, 18x8.5ET50) and they can take 235/40 in front and 265/35 in rear with no clearance worries.
I want wheels in 18x8ET40-45 and run 225/40 or 235/40 all around.

What pic are you seeing this in?

It's what he's not seeing. The stock front wheel is 7.5" wide. The RG-R is 8.5".

than stock  , but they are both 8.5's, (F & R). Looking at the 3rd, 4th, and 5th pic, (Both, F, R) the amount of tire sidewall that hangs PAST the rim appears the same or very close. On my dailey beater, I have 205/55/16's F and 225/50/16 R on 6.5 wide rims, and with only a 20mm difference, it looks like I've got hotrod tires in rear and skinnys up front. You've got a 30mm difference and they look the same. Now that I think about it, it is most likely because you are running 18's...there is not much sidewall to bulge out to begin with, especially with stiff S03's, compared to a 16. (Love my S03's, BTW, what a difference, on 18's they must be incredible) The correct fitment rim for a 225/40/18 is 8" wide, though up to 9" is acceptable, and a 255/35/18 is a 9" with down to 8.5" acceptable. A narrower rim reduces the the sidewall overhang about 1/4" per 1/2" rim width, over spec.

4 and 5 are both the rear wheels. One is driver side (5) and one is passenger side (4). I didn't take a close up of the fronts.
