I am not a car expert like the people in the group - far from it, I am completely car ignorant (although I know enough to drive a bimmer) But I have a few problems with my 525, and I figured you guys would know. I bumped the car stereo and now it won't play and asks for a code. I bought it second hand and have no idea how to find a code. Who do I contact or where do I look?
Also, I need to take the carpet out of the trunk - is there a trick to this or will it be easy?
oh, and and how do I stop the rear light from taking in water when it rains?
Thanks for your time!

sorry for wasting your time - I just pulled the carpet out. My baby was sleeping in the car earlier, and I thought it it was going to require tools, I should get everything ready before I tried to pull it out. And it was, of course, very easy.
next time I promise to limit my questions to things I can't figure out!

raven. you shouldnt have to worry about any one making fun of your questions on here, most are fantastic and realy are a wealth of knowledge.

radio code - check in your owners manual for a card, it will have the code on it, if it is not there then you have to take the deck out, 2 small little flaps, 1 on each side and a 3mm allen key, and unscrew, pull out the deck the serial number is on he sticker. now i have heard of calling the parts department at the dealer with the number which is a hit and miss i would take the deck right to the dealer and get them to run the serial number and then they can give you the code. and you just hook everything up and turn it on, when it says code use the number buttons on the deck to enter the code and thats it.

leaking lights, check the light for cracks, if it is not cracked then it would have to be the seal in behind the light, pull out the carpet lining from the back side of the light and using an 8mm socket remove the 3 nuts that hold the light on, disconnect the plug and pull the light out, and you will see the black seal that is supposed to go on the ridge on the light

and you want number 3

thats all there is to it

Thanks for the detailed directions in getting the stereo out. I'll try it and take it to the dealer.

oh, before I start, I should know - am I taking out the cd player from the trunk, or the radio from the front of the car?
Thanks again!

Thanks so much! A dealer gave me the code over the phone. It's great to have music again!
