Heater/ Air Conditioner Problem

Hi everyone,
I just bought my first bmw and its great except for the heating & air conditioning. The fan blows on the 3rd and 4th settings only and the when it's hot out it only blows hot air, when it's cold out it only blows cold air. Any suggestions on where to start??

Sounds to me like the Final Stage Resistor buddy. not the exact symptoms but very similar
