Guys.

As I have said, I am very sceptical of claims by car product manufacturers about there products.

I will also say that I was a bit sceptical of the claims made on Royal Purple (yes, even tho Pirate is a good friend).

Anyway I have now driven 500 kilometres (town only 720km all up) since changing the oil in my car to Royal Purple and this is what I have observed.

1. The oil light goes out almost the instant you turn the key to start. Used to take a second or so.

2. The 'tap' on start up is gone.

3. The valve gear 'tap tap' after a good hard run is gone.

4. The engine seems to be smoother and want to rev easier BUT overall the engine seems 'tighter'. If you know what I mean. Hard to explain.

5. The car went from (around town) 8.4 litres per 100km (33MPG) down to 7.7 litres per 100 kilometres (36 MPG). My wife drove the car during this period around town and her driving style ...UUMM....hasnt changed....

So, based on the facts that I have observed I would suggest that Royal Purple oil is..well...Bloody Brilliant.

I've noticed significantly better mileage on it as well, and the tapping I used to get is virtually gone. Great stuff!

You might have to look for the local distributor. The 'weight' I used was 10W-40.

what's a tapping sound?
my baby runs on castrol 5w40 atm and fortunately i haven't lost any oil during the 4000 km i've driven with it (maybe 2 millimeters on the wire rod, but not significantly).
i have the basic OBC, so i cant see any calculations either... only the gauge on the dashboard..
do you think i can install the 18 button OBC when i've got 2 sets of wires hanging at the back of the OBC? only 1 is used atm and i think the otherone is black.

i was told that the oil to use is 5/40 whats the diffrence between that and 10/40 i know its the weight but what does it really mean?

The tapping sound when you start the car is the hydraulic lifters. They tap until the oil gets to the top of the engine. Some times (like with my car) the lifters tap all the time as they need replacing

Not doing any real damage to the engine, just bloody annoying!!

Have a read of this buddy, it explains it better than i can hehehe

5W40 is basically thinner than 10w10 when it is cold

ON bimmerforums there is a diy that says it's totally possible to do so and there are other DIYs from Pelican parts i think that tell you how to change 11 to 18 button OBC.

Where do you oil service vull? Valdek? Yourself? After around 4000km i have gone down to right on the middle of the marker. Looks like 4k more and oil change but i have a small leak in the oil cap.. grr. will have to adress this i reckon.

i think the white one is in use and the black one just sits there...
whats the wire on the right used for?

oil service text in Estonian:
Carstop-is lasin vahetada. tööraha maksin mingi 250 eeku. õlid (käigukast, tagasild, mootor) ja filtird (bena, õli, õhu) ise mingi 2k kokku. tegelt tahtsin 10w40 panna, aga seda neil enam polnd ja siis lasin veidi kallima 5w40 sisse panna :p

i think you have to do the wiring yourself if you don't have this extra wire (the black one on my previous pic) at the back of the OBC, but i'm not sure. if i get the money, i will buy the 18button one, but till then, i just have to ask from the forums :D

Two question:

How much do you order to do an oil change yourself? and
Would using RP benefit any vehicle? I have an SUV that runs a little rough...

Pirate_copy
08-19-2007, 11:31 AM
I needed 7-8 UK litres for mine buddy

What oil do you use in your SUV at the moment?

Gryz
08-19-2007, 01:25 PM
To tell you the truth, I have no idea what kind of oil is in my SUV. I just use it as a winter beater since I live up in the mountians. I take it in for an oil change every 3000 miles and just say "change the oil" and could really care less what's in it. I know for sure that it is not synthetic, but feel that it would run smoother if I used some good oil.

Pirate_copy

I think that the oil we used wouldn't be good for the engine but Royal Purple do lots of different oils buddy

drop them a line and see what they say - www.royalpurple.com
