Lyksex - Wait till your girlfriends dad sees you roll up to pick up his daughter in a car with a plate that has to do with liking sex..... (even tho that's not what it means). Let me know if he lets you leave the house with her....lol
sexbmw - See above
bmftsh - Now you'll have g/f jealousy issues....lol.
bmwjlc - Huh?
petbmw - No comment....
inudrm - No, its really not. A 4 banger E36 isn't exactly something one hallucinates over :p
oh2sxy - G/F jealousy lol
arwsnu - Huh?

.

Edit, Pete, what's yours?

My personal favorite custom plate of all time was on a Buick Reatta (remember those? one of the original two seaters, and a big car at that).

The plate said .... CRPEDM.

Most excellent.

CRPEDM ... Carpe Diem ... Latin for "sieze the day" ... meaning "grab hold of life and don't let go."

How does the personalised number plate system work in Oz?

Here in the UK you cannot just make up a number plate. It has to be an existing legal registration number. They have just changed the reg system here and it is not so good as the old one IMO.

For example, mine is M10 KAY - M denotes that the car was registered in 1995 - 10 is a random number ie it goes from 1 - 999 and the 'AY' denotes where the car was originally registered ie Bristol, Cardiff etc. The 'K' again means nothing really. I had to apply to our government registration department and ask what 'KAY' reg's they had. Obviously the least numbers the better but 1 - 9 had obviously gone.

Same applies to Pirate's but obviously his 'PPJ' is his initials.

Registration numbers in the UK is huge business. If I recall the most expensive registration number sold was K1 NGS - this was released in 1993. It sold for a massive 240,000 GBP !!

The law is you can make a car look older but you CANNOT make a car look younger. In other words I could not put my registration number on any car registered BEFORE 1995.

I paid 300 GBP for my plate 12 years ago - a similar plate ie P10 PAT recently sold for 3,500 GBP - not a bad investment ey? However, I would NEVER sell it. It is my trademark and a lot of people recognise me in our town simply because of my registration number.

Torbay must have one of the largest number of private plates in the UK. It is posers paradise!!

Best one though is on a DB9 - registration plate D1 NOB - how cool is that!!

I can't speak for other states here, but in West Virginia you can create your own license number from 1 to 8 digits long. The requirement is that it must contain at least one letter, so you can't just request numbers.

Of course, if it's already taken, you can fall back on your second option, or your third.

Eight digits leaves a lot of room for creativity.

Most valuable number plate in the UK is F1

Bernie Ecclestone tried to buy it for £1million last year but the current owners were not interested. Amazingly the owner is Oxford City Council. I would have thought £1million was a lot of money to them.....

I agree with Pirate. It's a bit off.
You wouldn't get away with it in the States as there are disapproved words and such.
Then again, if you're crafty, you can get around it. There's a 'stang by my friend's place that has the license plate "CAJNES," but there's a roundel (VT University Seal) in between the J and the N.

I think you should get one of these :-)

Those do nothing for you, at all. It doesn't take much to walk up to the car and figure it all out. Sure, it might bust a traffic camera, but when you get yanked off the road by a cop, he immediately knows two things:
1 - You're immature
2 - You're trying to evade authority
Both things make cops happy. Both, combined, make cops very, very happy.
...so much so, they might just not drop a few MPH off your ridiculous clock.

lol, bet it was easier and cheaper than getting a plate that matched your name in the UK...all the best ones are either gone or EXPENSIVE

You ppl in the UK have the worst plate choices EVER.. I don't even understand the point of half the ones you were saying.. And you have to waist tooons of money on it too.. whats the point??

Pirate_copy
08-21-2007, 12:05 PM
Because that is basically all we can get

On an E36 it basically HAS to have at have as a minimum:

One letter at the start, then one number then three letters

I think having our initials is a nice touch...if you disagree, that is your prerogative!

Example - http://www.newreg.co.uk/search/sections/0/0/cat_search/none/none/plates_for_him/1/index.html

Plus u can tell most plates are private almost immediately as obviously we (uk'ers!!) know what a standard plate looks like so u can tell by the amount and combination of letters and numbers..not to mention a plate denotes the year so if its a new car with an older numbered plate u know its a private plate...Make sense? I saw a nice 7 series in Edinburgh a few weeks back with bm1...Nice!!
