pirate lives by 10w40 royal purple, i am sure mobil 1 is fine however most people on here will tell you royal purple is the best. I will be putting it in my car next time i do an oil change.

Ok, first off, in the manual there is a chart that shows temp ranges and oil weights. You use whatever weight best fits your range of temps. For Seattle, I'd recommend plain old Royal Purple 10W30 should be decent, 5W30 would be optimum. I'm sure your local Vick Hubbards or specialty auto store should be able to get you a case no prob.

I used Mobil1 full synthetic before this, and I can seriously tell you Royal Purple makes the engine run quieter, smoother, and with better MPG.

Edit, oops, Spokane....oh well, they both have the same permanent state of weather: rain. Lol.

hey,
Phantom what weight Royal Purple did you use?
I'm down here in Atlanta, which gets quite hot in the summer but also quite cold...so I'm kinda bit confused about what weight to use...

I don't have access to royal purple but have used before in the past, I normally use mobil 1 and I didn't notice any difference at all. Mobil 1 is pretty much all I use

I used 20W50. It was the closest to my range of temperatures (actually, I think like 15W50 or something was, but that wasn't easily available). I'm assuming you should easily drive 3 grand before it gets cold, right? I'd go for 20W50 if you can. How cold does it get in the winters?

well,
I mean in summer it gets up to 100...and winter it goes down to about freezing but without snow tho...so I mean its quite a range...
Cuz right now the shop has 15w40 for me...but not royal purple.
I wonder if I'll have to change oil for winter...

I prefer peanut oil myself. I'm not a fan of royalty. Try peasant orange too, better than royal purple.

Yeah, you could run something intermediate, like 5w40, but it'd be much, much better to just run something like 20w50 for the summer, and 0w30/40 for the winter.

hmm....so you think how about 10w40 or just 15w40 for intermediate?
Kinda confused....

Nope. If you want something you can put in now and use in the winter as well (which I'd recommend against), get something like 5w40.

If you are willing to change it again when the temperature makes a big change, then I'd put in 20W50 right now, and then change it to 0w30 or 0w40 for the winter.

Make sense?
