The CHM-5620 CD changer in my wife's 99 328i quit working a few months ago. The radio still works great, but when the CD changer is plugged in, it keeps cylcing; will not play anything, so I removed it from the trunk. Is the unit bad, or is there something I can do to reset the radio/CD player interface. If unit is bad, do you have any advice on where I can get it replaced or repaired.

Has anyone replaced their stock radio with a MP3 ready player. My wife could play her favorite tunes from her MP3 player ... it's an option for us to consider.

Thanks, Bernie

Yeah, most of us have replaced them, which is why you're getting suck little help w/ the CD changer prob. Sorry.

Let me recommend this, I'd imagine a new headunit (radio) will run you not too much more than the cost of fixing (or replacing) your CD changer, depending on what the problem is. I have this one:
and love it, it has an auxiliary input, a USB port, and plays MP3, WMA, AAC, and regular CD's. Plus, it looks decently close to the look of the car. Also, the thing I like is that it doesn't have the gimmicky flip down to get to the CD slot thing, its right there in front (even though Best Buy says it flips down, it doesn't). The flip down is just one more thing for some idiot to accidentally put pressure on and snap a hinge, or a motor to fail, etc etc.
Also, that unit has 4 channel RCA outs, plus another 2 for the sub, which can be adjusted from the faceplate as well. It's really a perfect headunit IMO.

^Well in that case it'd be cheaper to replace the CD changer..haha.

Props to you for the good price and helping him out if he wants it.

Check these guys out, they repair stock BMW radios and OBC's and show you how to remove them. www.carstereohelp.com/strbmw.htm
Personally I would by new. I dont even use my CD player anymore just my IPod.
I just have a 2Gig and it will hold roughly 500 songs, thats way more than a 10 disc changer and easier to deal with.

I totally agree with GreenBeem. just invest in an ipod - I've officially given up on the cd changer as of an hour ago - what I'm planning on doing is just getting a new, simple dash deck installed that has a cd player and is ipod ready - then I'll just stash the BMW cd changer somewhere in the depths of my garage along with the gigantic stock BMW car phone that used to take up my console . . .

From DLM: What unit did you recommend ... I don't see in above. Sorry for late reply.
