I am looking to put some winter wheels on my 2007 Z4 3.0si Coupe and have some questions about what rims can be used in my application. I do have the Sports Package with 18" rims that work fine for my non winter wheels, but would rather move down to 17" rims for the winter given the larger set of choices for tires.
The rims I want are the ASA AR1s. When I look at that wheel on the Tirerack website, the only choices I am given are for an 18" or 19" size with the Z4. If I say I have a 2006 325i I get the option of the 17" size and when I compare the specs it looks like it should fit the Z4 just fine - same offset and bolt pattern (of course). Is there some particular reason why I can't fit the 17" version on my Z4? There is a somewhat similar wheel called the Sport Edition CD that has almost identical specs to the ASA AR1 (2mm more offset) that is listed for my Z4 so I am baffled as to why the AR1 won't work.
I could go ahead and simply order them from the menu saying that I had the E46 325i, but I do need to get the TPM air pressure sensors installed and they aren't listed as an option in the menus for the older E46.
My tire choice for this will be the Pirelli SotoZero 210s. I put a set of these on my wife's X3 and they have done a very nice job for our cold wet climate here in the Pacific NW. Our snow driving is very minimal but we do get a lot of wet weather and freezing temps are not uncommon. The Sotozeros have been a very nice riding tire in the X3 and have very little road noise.
