Gary,
I have a 335xi sedan with the sport package. I live in snowy NH, and have to drive up and down a pretty steep hill every day. I'm ready to buy a winter wheel/tire package from TireRack and have it narrowed down but need your advice.
Option 1: Blizzak LM-22 RFT 225/45/17s. Upside: I like the fact that these are RFTs because my wife and kids drive in the car alone sometimes. But I worry that these are simply too wide for safety when the roads are slick.
Option 2: Blizzak LM-25 205/50/17s. Upside -- narrower tire plus, I hear, they have a softer compound. These are presumably better winter tires. But the downside is that they are not RFTs.
Do you think option 1 is "good enough" in an "xi" to handle my winter conditions? If so, I'll buy those. If not, I'll go for option 2 and just cross my fingers on the flat tire risk.
Recommendations?
Thanks.
