As I do my own maintenance on my car now, I was wondering...do the E36's need things like valve adjustments or timing chain replacements? thanks.

Mate...the E36 has hydrolic lifters, and such cant be adjusted. I am unsure tho it there is a mile limit on the timing chain.

Really? I thought the E46 M3 needed regular valve adjustments, I would figure the E36 did too?

Dont think timing chains need much work, while belts must be changed 80-100,000 km, lest you destroy your eninge.

The lifters on your car cannot be adjusted, if you have tapping then you need to replace then or you maybe able to get away with just using a very good oil...i suggest Royal Purple :)

BMW timing chains need to be replaced every 60 billion miles or so. Outside of that your valvetrain really doesnt need too much maintenance unless something goes obviously wrong.

He was being sarcastic. :P
Thanks for the replies. My lifters do indeed tap (I'm 95% sure it's them). Is it NECESSARY to replace them if they tap, or only a convenience? Are they causing damage? I'm using RedLine 10W-40 and they still tap...wonder how much better if at all RP is.
