Well, the official photos are out and there is going to be a lot of people interested in the pictures...I am making this a sticky so people can see them straight off when they come here.
What does everyone think? I actually kind of like it I think

In thinking about it some more, I do like it but I would like to see how the rear looks in person. Of course there is also the question on how much this sucker is gonna cost?!?

I agree, there is no comparison you can make between the two ;)
My wife saw the pictures and said "is that a Nissan"?
What an ugly rear. Fire that designer!! I much prefer the X 5

I like it... front & rear.
Don't care for the foglamps mounted on the fragile looking horizontal slats in the front.

I like it and I hate it.
Not crazy about the runners on the side and somehow the wheels seem a little too big. The rear however is sweet!

I agree!
I don't.
Looking forward to more details. This could very well replace our current X5 (my wife likes it, but is waiting to see it in person__she'll be the one seen in it most often).

I think the X6 looks like nothing else out there & will establish a new niche in the market. Can you tell... I want one!

I think it is an SUV. I hate SUVs. I see they went to the extra effort to make visibilty for other motorists nearly impossible.

X6 is like an ice cream headache....it hurts like hell but when it goes away I feel SO much better!!!
Its attractiveness for me would depend on whether it drives like a 5er (or preferably a 3er). If it does then it's a winner for me. If it drives just like an X5 with a lot less space, then it's just intended for people who prefer something to be seen in/fashion statement as opposed to actually enjoying the physical merits of driving.

Not IMPRESSED. LOOKS LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN THE INFINITY AND THE LEXUS. NOT MY CUP OF TEA. THINK IT HAS MORE THAN 2 CUP HOLDERS? DONT THINK SO!
All the disadvantages of an SUV crossover (high weight, high center of gravity, excessive thirst) with none of the advantages (room, utility and versatility).
Yep, the X6 is the perfect vehicle for today's confused poseur.

The only difference for me is that it has one less seat than I am used to in my X5. Since I never use that middle seat, nor do I load the rear above the load cover then it does not compromise the value of an SUV but adds a better driving experience.
If the poseurs wish to buy them there's not much we can do about that, but I am buying one for very different reasons.

Why wouldn't you just get a five series wagon - in an xi model if need be :dunno:
It would suit your purposes just fine wrt load capacity, but would offer a vastly superior driving experience than either an X5 or an X6.

I disagree about the 'vastly superior' comment. I work with EVO magazine from time to time and we took an ML63, Cayenne Turbo and Lotus Elise S along to our benchmark track and lapped both of the SUVs more quickly than the Lotus and on a par with the lap times set for the E60 M5.
I own both an AMG ML63 and a B7 RS4, and the ML has the more rewarding chassis providing better feel as the power shifts from front to rear and a more neutral/oversteer stance exiting corners. The RS4 does other things better than the ML63 but its not the dominant performance that might be expected, not least because the ML is faster and returns an average mpg only 3-4 less than the RS4.
I have owned many 5-series and indeed it was owning my last one that led me to my first X5. I was caught in floods and my 535i sucked in water and the engine seized. It was only later that I discovered that the 5-series had an intake breather in the wheel arch, whereas the X5 breaths through an intake at the top of the bonnet.
I was going skiing a few weeks ago and despite best intentions to take my 4wd RS4 Avant, we took our ML instead. Why? well the RS4 cannot be fitted with snow chains since there is not enough clearance in the wheel arches, plus when family and luggage were loaded the rear of the car sinks down and makes it most unpleasant to drive (rather like steering a boat). Our SUV by comparison is fitted with self-levelling suspension so its driving feel does not change when loaded, and fitting chains was the easiest task.
There are many, many more reasons why I will always choose an SUV as our family car rather than a sedan/saloon and I am happy it is the right choice for me. The X6 is just another SUV, but more closely tailored to how I have always used mine.

I think it does resemble it, but in a way that is truly BMW. The FX happens to be a good looking vehicle. If only it had real cargo space, which means I guess I agree with EdCT...

I think the X6 is going to be amazing! Of course it is going to drive like a car, duh. The adaptive perfromance control is awesome! You will be able to make it a rear wheel drive vehicle. How awesome! Twin turbo V8, you kidding me? I dont care about storage space or anyone else, this car would be for me and maybe I would let my girlfriend ride along. It is going to be like an X5, M-Sport version. Cant wait for it to come out and see it at the auto show.

you will be able to put 4 golf bags in the rear, so who said their is no cargo space.

Folks,
Let me say hello. I'm Peter and had a 325ix long ago, and just traded my 4.8L 2004 X5 with 97K miles on an X6.
Now it has just ~350 miles and I am again in love with my BMW.
Tazmanian metallic with Nevada oyster leather, twin turbo 6 cylinder. This is a wonderful machine, fast, smooth, quiet, and unique. It fits all of my needs and I am truly happy to be out of my X5. It was getting old and at nearly 100K miles just about out of my extended warrenties.
More later, Peter

I think it's pretty cool. The problem that BMW will have (and has had alot of criticizm since the first spy picts were released) is that it's a big departure from BMW's core sport/lux sedan image.
If you compare to other BMW 6s, 5s, 3s, it's wierd looking. If you compare to X5, X3 it's wierd looking. If you compare to Porsche Cayenne, Nissan Murano, or Infinities version of the Murano (Q45?). It's makes a lot of sense. And I think that's where BMW was going with this. In that new niche of sport activity vehicle were you get performanc similar to a sedan but ammenities of an SUV. The catch will be does the X6 do both well or did it miss the mark on both.
I would consider this when I think about replacing my X5.

I just drove the X6 and I cannot believe the handling for a vehicle this large. Drives like you would expect a 3 series to drive. Very responsive. Can't wait to drive the V-8 model!

+1, The most comfortable thing I have ever driven with so much good handling. I was shocked.
If I was in the market I would take one of these over a 3 or 5 sedan. It handles just as good and has a lot more room. :bigpimp:
local dealers are saying there is more excitement about the X6 than both the new M3 and M6's combined. I think folks are growing tired of the same ole same ole. The X6 is causing quite a stir.

I think it LOOKS awesome, but I would never buy one...the last thing we need is another lard-assed SUV (which is what it is, regardless of what BMW calls it) on the road.

Up until a few months ago I hadn't even heard of the model until stumbling upon a thread on this site. At first I hated it but when I saw some at our local dealer I immediately fell in love and damn near wanted to leave the 330 that was in for maintanence there and drive the X home but that would have been the end of me. It's definitely going to be #1 on this years X-mas list for Santa Clause.

If I were in the market for a new SUV, I think this would be the front runner. I know some hate the look of it, but seeing it in the showroom may change your mind. It reminds me of an inflated 3er. I completely agree with Steved. There are times when the SUV is the vehicle of choice.
