Remember American Motors four wheel drive hunchback called the Eagle? Maybe a better name than the X6 would be Phoenix. Hope BMW does better with the reincarnation than AMC did with the original.

At least the AMC version was a true "coupe."

I had a station wagon version of one of those I bought one time. Interesting car. Ugly as sin but handy at times :)

Not really sure how you can honestly compare the two :dunno:

Sure, you might be able to say they have a very, very general likeness in shape but the design and engineering is SO much different. I think the X6 looks quite sleek...the AMC is not...at all.

Well, 30 years can account for a lot of the difference.

But it sure looks like a modern reincarnation of the AMC Eagle - an AWD, raised ride height ("jacked up") hatchback.

If the 135i can be a reincarnation of the BMW 2002, this certainly is the reincarnation of the Eagle.

I think these are what you will be seeing more and more of.

Not an suv and not sitting on the ground

why are they calling this a coupe when it has 4 doors? maybe the back two don't open and are just a new bangle look for the coupes?

...you're right, they're the same car! I mean, they both have 4 wheels, a hood, roof, windows, and a trunk that slopes! AMC (now owned by Jeep owned by Chrysler) should sue for plagerism.

It looks like a Bentley Continental GT. On stilts. Still like it, because those M6 are built for guys no taller than 5'8" and 175 lb. Which is not me.

The common American usage of sedan = 4 doors / coupe = 2 doors is a recent thing. The original formal definition, if there is one, has to do with the height of the roofline relative to the body. Alternative definitions are detailed at Wikipedia. The first photo is a Rover P5B Coupe from 1968; the second is the current Mercedes CLS.

I'd love to test drive one. Any of you think I should trade in my X5 if the X6 rides better? (Smaller space and 4 people seating)

Lol an AMC Eagle. my friend has TWO of those things. One is stock, which he drives sometimes, the other is bad ass. Its all bajad out, and will be in the 24 hr. even next year. Kinda weird that he chose a POS Eagle to make bad ass, but oh well. And hes not a total loser, does have a Ducati and a 3500HD Diesel.... just has weird weird taste.

I would say the X6 is NOTHING like an Eagle lol.
