Thanks, for taking the time out to read this thread. I have a 1997 318is (E36), I need to change the cam shaft position sensor. Is there a DIY for this and if so could you pls forward me the link, I have changed both O2 sensors and had the car scanned again and it came up with Cam shaft position sensor. Do I need to take the manifold to get to it? I know where its attched to the engine but the other end is the problem. If so is there a DIY for that aswell. Thanks for the help in advance.

I was able to change it. Its very hard to get to. All you need to do is remove the intake manifold which is 5 bolts and a couple of clips. Thanks for the help.

Same here also.
My check engine light goes on and off for long durations, and the only problem the scan tool gives me is for the cam shaft sensor.
I don't clear the code like I can. I let it do its thing, and when it goes out (Check Engine Light), I retest it and the scan tool says everything is alright.
Confused, but not understanding of the situation.
STUMPED!

Sorry for the late reply. I had the codes pulled from a friend of mine. There were two problems the O2 sensor after the cat and the Camshaft Sensor. I noticed I had a problem, because the car wasnt running smooth it felt like there was to much load on the engine . Since I changed both parts. ( I ended up changing both O2 sensors and camshaft sensor by the way) The car runs smooth it doesnt feel like its pulling and the engine puts out now doesnt feel like ur in the forth gear when ur in gear number 2. Also the check engine light is off... I hope that helps....
