View Full Version : Key Leather Cover covered under warranty?
If the key leather cover broke, will that be cover under warranty?
Or is that an accessory item?
I think it's an accessory. But either way, if you haven't had it for too long and can get back to the dealer that sold the car, I'd think they'd make it right for you... I guess....

Do you actually use the leather key holder? I had a difficult time getting the key from my '03 in there. It barely fit, was awkward to use and there was absolutely no room for any other keys.
I get the feeling that the leather key holster is a holdover for older cars that had keys that weren't as substantial and wide, i.e., no incorporated remote.

I like the little leather holster. It protects the key when it's in my briefcase and is pretty simple and clean. I keep my car keys separate...something I heard a long time ago about risking damage to ignition switches when you have a big load of keys on a ring including your car key.
Actually liked the leather holder so much, I bought what I thought was another on eBay. When I got it, it was too small, but seemed to be an authentic BMW holder for maybe older cars with smaller key/remotes?

I don't see how it could work with the current keys.
I didn't know that BMW made another, larger one specifically for the newer keys with the large, integrated remote.

But it's also the only key I carry - my miscellaneous keys (office, etc) are in my briefcase.
My dealer had a drawer full of 'em and claimed most folks don't bother to use them. Might be worth a call to your salesperson.

not sure about warranty but sales dept sells 'em. i ordered a 2nd one. cost about $12 and u get an actual leather one. the one which came with my car was leatherette believe it or not.
btw, i use the cover for both main keys to protect the button decals from scuffing off.

i keep my spare key in the leather holster, it's a little bulky for my taste. but it does keep that spare nice and new :D

I use the leather key holder too. It fits my '03 325xi key perfectly and protects the key from any damage. I also placed one ring of a detachable valet-style key ring (looks like this - 0=0) to the BMW key holder (with the end sticking out of the top), so I can keep my home and car key together. When I leave the house for the day I just detach the house keys, put them in my pocket and don't have to worry about all those keys banging against my leg when I'm driving. At night, I lock up the car and attach the house keys. All keys are back together in one spot. No sweat.

I have the leatherette key cover. It lasts longer and my friends can't tell it's not real leather.;)

I love my LEATHER key cover. It really protects the 'very expensive key' (VEK). I keep my other keys on a totally different ring and do not intermingle them. Would you?
Hey Tgravo2- that is a great, detailed pic. What camera did you use??

I used a Canon S40 on a tripod in macro mode using the self-timer and a 2 second delay rather than the shutter button.
