I just pulled out an aftermarket head unit (Pioneer AVIC-N1) that a previous owner had installed so it can be repaired. Installing the factory business CD fixed a couple of the problems that I'd been having: Driver's door speaker cutting out/sounding blown out, AM reception cutting out, weak bass. Looking at the job he did connecting the radio's wires to the adapter explains those at least; those connections were lousy at best.
The one other problem that led me to pull out the Pioneer was that it would no longer read CDs or DVDs. Is there any chance that the crappy connections could have caused this as well? My expertise with car radios is limited to doing a basic head unit install, so I really don't know if this is possible...
