6 series delivery/shipping info

"The other thing I learned is that once the car is in Bremerhaven waiting for a boat, the BMW 800 number can't provide any further updates, so you could call back a month later and they (or the automated system) will say it's at the dock waiting for a boat. Once it's at that point, the best thing is to get updates from the dealer.

On the east coast, you can track the boat by inputting your VIN here (doesn't work for west coast deliveries, since they use a different shipping company):

I found the above info on the 5 series board. Does anyone know if it will work for a 2008 6 series?

Yes, it works for east coast 6 series deliveries

It works for east coast deliveries, but I found that my car was on the boat for 2 to 3 days before entering the vin worked to show that it was on the boat. My dealer told me what boat it was on 1 day after it sailed, but I had to request that he make a dealer inquiry about the status of the car. It took nearly 7 days from the time the car arrived at Bremerhaven until it made it on a boat. My car arrived on 9/24 at the dock and left on 10/2. It made it to NY today 10/15.

I will let you know on the board here how things go from here. According to the dealer it will be 7 to 10 days until my dealer near Philadelphia will see the car and then they will take 1 to 2 days to do their prep work.

My car was on the boat on 9/23 and arrived in Newark, NJ on 10/7. It got to my dealer in Princeton, NJ on 10/11 and was delivered the same day. Once the boat docks in NJ, it takes the VPC 2 or 3 days to release it to the carrier for delivery to your dealer.

Good to know. I like that time line much better than the one the dealer gave me. That would mean that I might actually see my car this week. WhooHooo!
