That's about what I got on my way to Colorado this summer (75-80 mph). I just wish the gas milage in town was better; it's only 13-14 for me! Grrr!

I took a 500 mile round trip and I got 25.7 mpg speed varied 60-75 mph. I've been averaging 21 mpg going to and from work 20 miles one way 40 percent hwy 70 mgh
50 percent 45-60 with thirteen stoplights and 10 percent 25-40 with 3 stops. I've been very impressed so far with the gas mileage. My next trip I'm going to attempt to do 60 mph and see if it gets better or worse. I'm trying to find the perfect speed to mpg ratio. I will post when I finish.

On the highway trip from Northern VA to Charlottesville, VA, I got about 25.6 miles to the gallon and averaged about 68mph. However, conditions aren't ideal on Rt.29. There are rare stoplights, and there are many rolling hills. It isn't an interstate, which means you'd be crazy to do the 85mph-average like I do on I-85 in NC and Southern VA.

Those are some sweet mileage numbers, gents! With about 2,750 miles on my 6-speed manual 2007 X3 so far, the highest I've gotten my avg MPG up to is 23.0 MPG even, and that's with 80%+ highway driving, carrying no loads, driving conservatively, keeping the A/C compressor off a good bit of the time, and no overly hilly terrain.

It still seems to be on the uptick, however; each week, the average MPG seems to go up by 0.2 to 0.4 MPG.

At least on the "window sticker" for my 2007 X3, it shows a low of 18 MPG (city) to a high of 26 MPG (highway), so I'm really pretty pleased with 23.0 even.

My wife's 4-banger Toyota RAV-4 is somewhere in the 20s in terms of MPG, and it d/n have near the power (maybe about half the HP) -- nor the weight -- the X3 does.

I'd have to say, all things considered, I feel my mileage with the X3 is a reasonable trade-off. It's not the most economical vehicle I've ever driven, but that silky smooth inline-6 moves 4,000 lbs. pretty darned quickly, and I guess overall I'm feeling (especially now) like its thirst at the pump is not out-of-line given the performance.

Hell, my first car in H.S. (this would have been about 1983-1984) was a 1965 Pontiac Bonneville Catalina, with a high-compression 389 c.i. engine. I think that got about 8 miles to the gallon.

My 1984 5.0 litre Mustang, which was lucky to exceed 15 MPG, only had 175 HP.

So, again, not bad, all things considered. Life is a series of compromises.

My overall average consumption is 22.8 mpg. This is using the on board computer with 8900 miles both city and highway. No complaints here!

I just did a 850 mile trip to Toronto and back and got 25mpg on the way there, but 23mpg overall after driving around in the city and visiting Niagara falls. Not bad, I usually get 15mpg on my daily drive to and from work.

I take the bus every day to and from work where I'm getting infinite mileage. On weekends, I take the X3 to trailheads and ski resorts. On my last trip -- from Seattle to Rainier, over Chinook Pass, and home via Yakima. (2.5 hours out, 3 hours home and over a ~3k foot pass) -- I got about 25 MPG.
If I needed an every-day driver, I would have gotten an Audi A3 2.0T manual, but since I only drive on weekends, the X3 is perfect.

Hmmmmm. I routinely get 27-28 @ 75-80 running from Santa Fe to Albuquerque (it's downhill -) and 25.5+ going back in my '04 3.0 6 spd. I get 18.5-20.1 toodling around town (does bettter in the summer, FWIW). I ain't Balloonfoot Bodine, but I don't drive too aggressively, either (most of the time). I do have a Dinan CAI, cat-back & Stage II, which I think helps a bit. My '02 330Ci did about 10% better, but it was 600# lighter . . .
