I have what I call "mirror rot" on my sideview mirror. i.e. the mirror itself not the enclosure. How can I fix it?

I assume he means the silver backing on the mirrors glass is bubbling or peeling away.

Simple answer is there is no fix. However replacement mirror lenses are not that expensive.

+1 Only way to fix it is to get new glass.

Exactly the reason I replaced my entire mirrors! That and the awful sounding motors...

The sound was coming from the dieing motors in my factory mirrors.

Yep, m-style mirrors powered and heated. Maybe selling them soon though to get teh E46 M style that fits the E36.

When I have mirrors that are "fading," I merely paste a picture of Tara Reid over the offending part.

It doesn't help me see who's behind me, but ... who cares???
