Theres plenty of room for more power from the M50. How much money do you want to spend?

Do some searching. There are PLENTY of FI setups out there that are bolt on and will give you about a 50-60% increase in HP and torque but that is about as far as the M50 will go. (Highest documented FI M50 is 495 bhp Highest NA M50 documented is 250 whp ) If you want to make real power, sell your 325 and buy a 328 or M3 (Or an engine swap). You can make real power with those. (documented well over 1000 whp:yikes:) Of course, power isn't everything.
Best bang for your buck is doing a chip, intake, exhaust, and swapping a 3:23 or 3:38 LSD into your car.

Turbo is not your immediate answer. If you're going to ramp up the engine power, make sure the rest of the car can handle it (drivetrain especially - a slushbox is going to sap a lot of your power).

Well, BMW slushies aren't exactly known for their reliability.
Dude... sell it. You can get 3-4k off of that. Add another 3-4k on top, get yourself a decent 328is and wrap yourself around a pole (knock on wood).

Yep, sounds pretty much right on. The M50 is a good motor, and can take quite a beating, but the auto tranny is manufactured by GM, and especially on the E36, is a pile of sh!t. Really, I'd just sell it for as much as you can and buy a manual 328is. That will give you no extra HP, but a good amount of torque so you'll notice a difference for sure. From there on, you can do the basic upgrades and move on from there. BMW manuals are impossible to destroy, so you have all the room in the world that you wanna work with.

Don't do it - keep the e36 for yourself! My girl is strictly a passenger only in mine!
