i am hoping that this is nothing major but i have recently started to hear a clicking sound coming from my engine bay when the rpms are moderate
no sound is made idling, but as soon as i hit a range between 2 and 4k i can hear a very fast click
its hard to describe, i cannot hear the click from inside the car, but as i pass other drivers i hear the sound reflected back in through my window
nothing is going wrong with the car and i hoping that this is little more than an annoyance to me
it seems like it doesnt happen all the time i normally notice this when ive been driving a lot in a short period of time say 50 consecutive miles
thanks everybody

94k miles right now and had the oil changed less than 1k ago probably 2 months tops
and its synthetic
i asked my dad about it today and he thinks it might be my brakes rubbing a bit
and that seems likely actually if ive been driving perhaps my rotors heat up enough to touch the pads perhaps?
i probably mistook the noise from the wheels as a noise from the engine bay

Sometimes I hear my exaust ticking, could that be it? just a guess.

yea exhaust could definitely be it too, but i normally hear the click right as my car is flush to a car next to me so i have a feeling it is coming from the front end close to the drivers side window

Check your oil level for starters.Located around the dipstick,by the drivers strut tower. Is there a bracket there with some kind of valve with hoses attached to it? Where it bolts on to,are there rubber bushings to dampen the ticking noise the FUEL TANK VENT VALVE makes.Without the rubber bushings the noise could transfer across the body of the car.Without getting your hand chopped off, start the vehicle and put your hand there and feel it clicking.Noise may not be as pronounced while at idle.

He's right the noise can travel through the car. It's kind of hard to pin point where the ticking noise is coming from if you only hear it when you pass another car!
