From the article-
"With the 5 Series being the big news for the Frankfurt show in September, the redone 7 Series will appear perhaps “as early as Tokyo [Oct. 25 to Nov. 6] or maybe Detroit, but no later,” our source reports, following the fastest model redo in the history of the proud Munich firm. "

I don't recall the E46 apperence being changed in '01. There was an engine change and the whole steering rack controversy, but I don't recall a facelift of any sort.
That article seems to hit at more than a minor change if they are redoing the Bangle Butt and moving the location of the turn signals.

What an embarrassment. At least they're admitting is was a screw up and they're going to try and fix it.

I'm suprised that he hasn't responded here himself.
I haven't seen as much hoopla over 7er sales figures recently compared to the few months after its launch. We may have to dig up some numbers to compare E38 and E65/66 sales curves a year into each model's intro.
wow.
the residuals on those things are already piss poor, now the poor souls who bought that car are going to get absolutely creamed on the car's value if the redesign is out that soon.
we're talking depreciation along the lines of peugeot (last time they were in the US) or a saab.......

It shouldn't matter that much as the vast majority are leased.

well, it matters to BMW dealers and BMW FS, if it does not matter to customers then.
i think dealers are responsible for up to 70% of lease-ins and they have to move them themselves off their lots. ouch ouch ouch.

Rejoice. And you all also think that Dame Edna comparison is applicable, right?

i stand corrected--I thought the E46 got a facelift after 2 years, and some other model that I can't recall.

ive always thought just a minor facelift was needed. There were rumors going on at .org about a facelift months ago. But nothing about the rear. This does sound like more than a minor facelift.
I wonder when they're going to fix the Z4.
:dunno:

Nah, the Z4 doesn't need to be fixed much. Pound out the Zorro crease and put creases in the hood or something and it should be OK.
What I don't like is how the Marketing is calling it a 'Land Shark.' For BMW that title belongs to one and only one car, the E24.

Got this pic from roadfly's 3 series board. As far as I can see, there's no re-designed/face-lifted E65/66 planned for the near future.
Not exactly a super accurate source of information, but then again that magazine article is not a pinnacle of trustworthiness either.
I know, there's that "2002" date there, but 2002 ended less than 3 months ago... And considering how BMW has production plans already in place up to year 2007, I don't think that such decisions are made without much consideration and debate.
Cheers.
