I have a 1997, 528i
My car seems to run great except for when I first start it. It usually won't start until the second attempt unless the car is warm. I am guessing that I need to clean the fuel injectors. I've already changed the plugs.
My problem is...when I reach 40 mph just about exactly, every time, I get this bass like hum. It's like the bass on your stereo. Not too too bad. Some people don't hear it but I can . My wife finally said she could hear it. It seemed to get louder but quieted when I changed the plugs, I think. Could it be the catelac converter? Does that kick in at 40 mph? I thought that it might be the tranny in 4th gear but when I put the shifter in Sport 3 mode it still does it even though it doesn't reach 4th. It's always at 40 mph. even if I reach the same rpm's, it still won't do it unless I'm doing 40mph. I wouldn't guess drive shaft because it would reach the same speed in a different gear starting up before I reached 40.
