Does anyone know if there is a required service after the first 1200 miles on a 530i?

While placing the order for a 2003 at my local dealership, I sat in a M5 (wow, what a car!) and noticed a sticker in the center console that read "1200 mile service required". I hope this isn't a dumb question, but would like to know the answer ahead of delivery time. I searched all through the on-line owner's manual as well as this forum. This will be our first Bimmer and we want to do everything 'by the book'. Thanks.:)

Per BMW, yours won't need service until 15,000 miles.

The 1,200 mile is only for M's and the Z8

1200 miles on non-M5 E39s is for the break-in period of the car. They say you should try to keep the engine rpms at <= 4000 rpm for the first 1200 miles.

A lot of people like to change their oil at this time but I do not think it is necessary.

Service or Inspections (per the 5 green bars and yellow and red bars) is regulated by the amount of fuel you use and not the mileage you drive although there are maintenance items that do go by rough mileage numbers.

Good deal. Thanks for the info.

BTW, I called 1-800-831-1117 and found out my ride is on the vessel TOSCA and that it will arrive in N.Y. on 4/4. Woo-hoo!
