I recently inherited a 1993 325i with about 90k. Never had a car like this and we're loving it. Until last night. My true love drove it home from work and got out to find that the anti-theft alarm was activated but very very quietly. We couldn't get it to stop, so we disconnected the battery ground and went to bed, planning to face it the next morning.

Next morning, I hook it up and the full volume alarm goes off and the engine won't start. We've tried monkeying with the double lock system by putting the master key in various positions per owner's manual. We have no remote entry clicker and the original radio is long gone so no codes can be entered.

Has anybody got any ideas to try next? Importantly, we live waaaaaaay out in the boonies and have no need for an alarm system and would be elated to simply kill it so that we can start the car in silence.

There is no dealership for about a hundred miles, but there is a highly regarded local shop that does anti-theft systems and we will be asking if they can bypass it for us.

Before that, though, any unique DIY options you have will be tried, particularly if there is a way to start it so I can drive it to the shop. I am planning to pull the glove box this pm and look for loose wires as suggested in another post from long ago.

Any thoughts much appreciated.
